At the meeting, Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru congratulated President Luong Cuong on his election to the position of President; emphasizing that Vietnam is always Japan's priority partner in the region.
President Luong Cuong congratulated Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru on his election as Prime Minister of Japan; affirmed that Vietnam considers Japan one of its reliable, important and long-term partners; and supports Japan in actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The two leaders were pleased with the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World between Vietnam and Japan in a practical and effective manner.
Discussing the direction of cooperation in the coming time, President Luong Cuong suggested that the two sides enhance political trust, exchange and annual high-level contacts; promote substantive defense and security cooperation through effective implementation of signed cooperation agreements.
The President also suggested that the two sides strengthen economic cooperation - the main pillar of bilateral relations; continue to expand comprehensive cooperation into new areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, and support Vietnam in training semiconductor industry engineers with university degrees or higher by 2030.
Affirming that the affection and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries is the foundation for promoting strong and effective development of bilateral relations, the President proposed further deepening cooperation in human resource training, especially strategic-level management staff, cultural exchange, people-to-people exchange, local cooperation, and tourism.
Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru agreed with the opinions of President Luong Cuong; affirmed that he will closely direct ministries and branches to concretize the new relationship framework.
Sharing President Luong Cuong's assessment of the importance of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, Prime Minister Ishiba affirmed that the Japanese Government will continue to have policies to encourage and support the foreign community, including Vietnamese people, to live, study and work conveniently in Japan. Prime Minister Ishiba especially appreciated the Vietnamese student community in Japan.
At the meeting, the two leaders affirmed to continue to closely coordinate on regional and international issues of mutual concern to actively contribute to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world; and to strengthen cooperation at multilateral forums and international and regional organizations such as the United Nations, APEC, ASEAN and Mekong.
