Speaking at a press conference to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany, German Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Josefine Wallat, highlighted the similarities between Germany and Vietnam, such as being divided countries before reunification, now being major exporting economies in the world, sharing a burning passion for football and love for education.
Diverse program
During this special anniversary year, Dr. Wallat said that German government agencies and organizations have joined forces to create a very diverse program to reflect the bilateral relationship in many different aspects.

Responding to Thanh Nien about the discussion related to the Mekong Delta scheduled to be held in early May, Consul General Wallat said that the German side wants to hear debates about what Germany can do and possible aspects of cooperation to minimize the impact of climate change in the region that is the rice granary of Vietnam.

Strong trade relations
For his part, Mr. Peter Kompalla, Chief Representative of the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Vietnam (AHK Vietnam), mentioned the bilateral economic, trade and investment aspects in the Vietnam-Germany diplomatic relations.
According to him, while Germany's foreign trade turnover is expected to decrease by 2% globally in 2024, preliminary figures show that total two-way trade turnover between Germany and Vietnam has increased by 10%.
Specifically, data from the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) shows that the total two-way trade turnover between Germany and Vietnam in 2024 will reach 18.8 billion euros.
The second bright spot is investment. The AHK representative said that there are currently more than 530 German companies investing in Vietnam, bringing economic success stories to the relationship between Vietnam and Germany.
