On February 28, the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security issued Official Letter No. 644/C02-P4 requesting the VFF to review and clarify the refereeing in the match between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong A Thanh Hoa in round 13 of the V.League taking place on February 14 at Thong Nhat Stadium. The referee for this match was FIFA referee Le Vu Linh.
The document reads: " Based on the functions and tasks of the Criminal Police Department and the Coordination Regulation No. 319/QCPH-LĐBĐVN-CSHS dated June 14, 2023 between the Criminal Police Department and the Vietnam Football Federation on crime prevention and control, violations of the law in Football, the Criminal Police Department transfers the dispatch and documents of Dong A Thanh Hoa Football Company Limited to the Vietnam Football Federation for consideration and handling according to regulations ".
Mr. Le Vu Linh gave a red card to coach Popov.
Previously, Thanh Hoa club sent a dispatch to the Criminal Police Department regarding "a request to review the refereeing of the match between Ho Chi Minh City football team and Dong A Thanh Hoa football team on February 14, 2025 within the framework of the first leg of the National Football Championship 2024/2025 season, the content reflects that the referee team running the match showed negative signs, oppressing, causing disadvantages to Dong A Thanh Hoa football team in some specific situations of the match, sending along with documents, images, and USBs storing data recording the above situations".
Referee Le Vu Linh and his assistants caused a lot of controversy in the above match. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) confirmed that the referee had "some mistakes, including the situation in the 65th minute that could have affected the outcome of the match". The main referee and those involved were suspended from duty.
Mr. Linh took away Thanh Hoa's penalty, causing them to draw 2-2. The red card given to coach Velizar Popov by the man in black was also considered an incorrect application of the law, causing Thanh Hoa to be at a disadvantage. In some other situations, Ho Chi Minh City players repeatedly committed fouls but were not penalized. The home team's equalizer was also scored when the passer Vo Huy Toan was offside.
According to regulations, VFF will have to have a written response to the Criminal Police Department about the plan to review and handle referee Le Vu Linh's violations.
