Celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation

Attending the event were Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy, First Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council Andrei Denisov, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Saint Petersburg Nikolai Bondarenko, representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, Vietnam scholars, close friends of Vietnam and Ambassadors of ASEAN countries in Moscow.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation Dang Minh Khoi reviewed important milestones in the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation. The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam is always proud to have a trustworthy friend like Russia.

The Ambassador stressed that the leaders of the two countries agreed that the relationship between Vietnam and Russia is based on the glorious tradition of the past. Vietnam always remembers with deep gratitude the sincere and valuable help and support that the Soviet Union (formerly) and the Russian Federation have given to Vietnam during extremely difficult times, as well as during the period of national development.

The current Vietnam-Russia relationship is a continuation of the tradition of friendship and solidarity that was built 75 years ago. In 2001, Vietnam and the Russian Federation established a strategic partnership and in 2012, this relationship was upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership .

Political relations are increasingly strengthened. High-level delegation exchanges are maintained regularly. The two countries coordinate actions and support each other in the international arena, especially at the United Nations and ASEAN. In addition, positive cooperation momentum is recognized in the fields of defense, security, economy, science, education, culture, and tourism.

The Ambassador affirmed that the achievements made during 75 years of cooperation show that the two sides have chosen the right path, and that the leaders and people of the two countries trust and are determined to bring the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into deeper and more substantial depth.

Expressing his emotions when mentioning Vietnam, Mr. Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, said that for people of his generation, Vietnam is not only the name of a country, but also a symbol of courage and heroism in the struggle for freedom and independence.

Mr. Mikhail Shvydkoy affirmed that Russia is always proud of the support it has given to the Vietnamese people during the harsh war years, as well as during the period of peace building.

Currently, the Russian Federation-Vietnam relationship is developing steadily in many areas. One of the most important areas of the Russia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. Scientific, technical and educational cooperation is of particular interest to both sides. Russia attaches great importance to cooperation in the fields of culture and education with Vietnam.

According to Mr. Mikhail Shvydkoy, Russia highly appreciates Vietnam's role in promoting Russia-ASEAN cooperation. Deepening the Russia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership meets the interests of the people of the two countries, contributing to ensuring peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.

At the celebration, there were many unique cultural and artistic activities jointly performed by Vietnamese and Russian students, an exhibition of documentary photos about the diplomatic relations between the two countries, and an Ao Dai performance with the participation of Russian students.
