Every year, the District People's Committee directs the departments to coordinate in promoting propaganda and changing the mindset from purely agricultural production to agricultural economics. Especially the application of science and technology (S&T) in converting crop structure, aiming to shift production from output to quality, efficiency and competitiveness. Raising people's awareness, changing farming and working habits and shifting crop structure from inefficient rice land are promoted, bringing economic value. From 2020 to now, the whole district has converted nearly 2,100 hectares. Of which, more than 1,873 hectares were converted from rice land (to colored land, fruit trees); 215.73 hectares were converted from colored land to fruit trees; 10 hectares were converted from mixed gardens to fruit trees.
“Through the direction of the district and commune and with dynamism and creativity, some farmers have boldly diversified their crops in association with sightseeing, entertainment, and community tourism. Since then, many effective models have emerged such as grapes, strawberries, mulberries, rambutans, especially durian, which have brought high efficiency, contributing to increasing farmers' income” - Vice Chairman of Cho Moi District People's Committee Le Tran Minh Hieu said.
By 2024, the average area converted to growing color crops will increase 3.16 times and fruit trees will increase 1.05 times compared to rice cultivation. The average production price of rice is 164.82 million VND/ha, color crops are over 520 million VND/ha, fruit trees are over 173 million VND/ha. Currently, there are 5 communes and towns: Tan My, My Hiep, Binh Phuoc Xuan, My An and Cho Moi town that have converted all rice areas, 100% of color and garden production areas. The whole district has over 20 seedling businesses, 10 seedling nurseries, meeting the needs of farmers for seedlings. Thanks to the irrigation system being invested in upgrading, maintaining and repairing to serve production and people's needs, it has contributed to promoting effective crop restructuring. Over the past 4 years, 96 projects have been implemented, with a total investment of more than 220 billion VND, dredging canals, repairing and upgrading culverts, and overcoming dyke erosion.
Cho Moi mango export
To increase the value of rural products, up to now, the whole district has 25 products certified as OCOP (2 4-star OCOP products, 23 3-star products). Production according to the chain link is increasingly focused towards the goal of sustainable production. In recent years, the district has coordinated with An Giang Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Angimex), Tan Vuong Import-Export Company Limited, Loc Troi Group, Sunrice Agricultural Products Import-Export Trading Service Company Limited, Ngoc Phu Rice Company Limited to implement policies on linking the consumption of products on rice plants, linking the production of Cat Loc mango varieties with thick skin. Antesco Company, Thavi Mekong Farm Import-Export Production and Trading Company Limited, Nam Phuong Company Limited... have linked the consumption of vegetable products. Chu Chin Agricultural Products Company Limited - Dong Thap, Van Van Loi Import-Export Company Limited - Ben Tre, Kim Nhung Company Limited - Dong Thap, Chanh Thu Company Limited - Ben Tre, Hoang Phat Fruit Company Limited have linked to consume mangoes.
As a result, up to now, Cho Moi has nearly 1,100 hectares of mango, rice, young corn, and vegetables certified by VietGAP. There are 80.6 hectares of vegetables certified to meet food safety conditions; 3 hectares of dragon fruit, 0.6 hectares of vegetables registered with the An Giang brand; 8 production facilities and enterprises are granted the right to use the An Giang certified brand; 98 codes for growing areas on rice, vegetables, and fruit trees are granted, with an area of 10,300 hectares serving domestic consumption and export.
Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cho Moi district, Nguyen Thi Thuy Hau, said that the district's agricultural sector has promoted agricultural extension programs, transferred science and technology, and applied high technology. It has implemented 131 models to support the development of water-saving irrigation production using high technology associated with new rural construction, 21 production net houses, and 11 nursery greenhouses. All models are effective, contributing to the development of high-tech agricultural production according to Resolution 09-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee.
Connecting facilities and businesses to consign products at Tu Son Supermarket (Chau Doc City), Antesco Store (Long Xuyen City); Bach Hoa Xanh Store and Vinmart+; My Luong Eco-tourism Site and Con En. At the same time, supporting cooperatives to promote the consumption of agricultural products at Binh Dien wholesale market, Thu Duc market (Ho Chi Minh City); as a result, each trip consumed over 1 ton of mango at wholesale markets. The district also organized 2 ceremonies to announce the export of 20 tons of green-skinned mangoes and small-seeded mangoes to the Australian, US and Korean markets, linked to the production value chain in Binh Phuoc Xuan commune. Thereby, Cu Lao Gieng GAP Cooperative linked with companies to export more than 210 tons of mangoes to markets with high quality requirements.
