(Dan Tri) - After its establishment, Hue City under the Central Government will have 9 district-level administrative units (including 2 districts, 3 towns, 4 districts) and 133 commune-level administrative units, according to the Government's proposed plan.

On the morning of September 28, the National Assembly Standing Committee gave its opinion on the Project to establish Hue City under the Central Government. Presenting a report on this content, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra emphasized that Thua Thien Hue always holds an important position as a connection between the three regions of the North - Central - South, with a rich history and culture. This is also the only locality in Vietnam and Southeast Asia with 8 heritages recognized by UNESCO.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, the construction of the Project to establish Hue City under the Central Government will create new development momentum not only for Hue City but also make practical contributions to the Central region and the whole country. "The establishment of Hue City under the Central Government is an important step to concretize Resolution No. 54 of the Politburo, an important premise to complete the goal that by 2030, Thua Thien Hue will be one of the large, unique centers of the Southeast Asian region in terms of culture, tourism and specialized healthcare; one of the major centers of the country in terms of science and technology, multi-disciplinary, multi-field education and training, high quality", the Minister of Home Affairs emphasized. Thua Thien Hue Province currently has an area of ​​over 4,947km2 and a population of over 1.2 million people; including 9 district-level administrative units (Hue City, 2 towns of Huong Thuy, Huong Tra and 6 districts of Nam Dong, Phu Loc, Phu Vang, A Luoi, Quang Dien, Phong Dien); 141 commune-level administrative units (95 communes, 39 wards, 7 towns).

Regarding the arrangement plan, Ms. Tra said that Hue city under the Central Government will be established on the basis of the status quo of more than 4,947 km2 of natural area and a population of more than 1.2 million people of Thua Thien Hue province. At the same time as establishing Hue city under the Central Government, 2 districts, 1 town, 1 district and 11 wards, 1 commune, 1 town under Hue city under the Central Government will be established on the basis of arranging and establishing related district and commune-level administrative units. Thus, Hue city under the Central Government will have more than 4,947 km2 of natural area and a population of more than 1.2 million people; there will be 9 district-level administrative units, including 2 districts, 3 towns, 4 districts (the number of district-level administrative units will not change but 1 city, 2 districts will be reduced and 2 districts and 1 town will be increased); there will be 133 commune-level administrative units. On this basis, the Government proposed that the National Assembly Standing Committee consider and give opinions on the establishment of Hue city under the Central Government, and at the same time consider and decide to establish 2 districts under Hue city under the Central Government; establish Phong Dien town and arrange and establish commune-level administrative units under Phong Dien town; arrange and establish district-level and commune-level administrative units in the 2023-2025 period in Thua Thien Hue province. Examining this content, the Law Committee and the agencies participating in the examination agreed on the necessity of establishing Hue city under the Central Government and arranging district-level and commune-level administrative units of Thua Thien Hue province. "Compared with the actual situation, Thua Thien Hue province meets all the standards and conditions as prescribed to submit to the National Assembly for consideration and decision to establish Hue city under the Central Government", according to the viewpoint of the examination agency.

In addition to favorable conditions for socio-economic development, according to the inspection agency, the establishment of Hue city under the Central Government and districts, towns, wards and townships will also lead to a number of difficulties and challenges for State management in the area, such as: determining a suitable urban government organization model; transforming the social-professional structure; policies on scientific and technological innovation towards green development; improving and enhancing the quality of life of urban residents... Therefore, the Law Committee recommends that the Government, Party committees and authorities of Thua Thien Hue province pay special attention, carefully prepare the necessary conditions, have plans and directions, and specific solutions to solve the above issues when Hue city under the Central Government is established.
