The complex flights and high-tech aerobatic formations are clear evidence of the strength, skill and bravery of the Vietnam People's Air Force. This is not only an important political mission but also an opportunity to demonstrate combat capability, affirming the strength of the Air Defense - Air Force ready to protect the Fatherland.
Strict training, improve combat ability
At this time, units in the Air Defense - Air Force are entering the peak training period. On average, every day, from 3 am, technical staff begin to check the electrical system and lubricate the aircraft. To have a safe flight, ground support units such as technical staff, flight commanders, and radar surveillance forces must make every effort to perform their tasks. Before each flight, all systems must be thoroughly checked to ensure that the aircraft are always ready for takeoff.
Lieutenant Nguyen Ngoc Linh, Squadron Leader of Aviation Equipment Squadron 1, Air Force Regiment 940, said that the squadron's daily task is to thoroughly inspect the aircraft to ensure that they are operating properly and hand them over to the pilots. After the pilots complete their flights, the squadron will receive the aircraft and repair and fix any problems or breakdowns that may occur to prepare them for the next flights.
The pilot checks the cockpit before departure.
“We have to study and master all the knowledge about aircraft models to meet the mission requirements. When performing technical operations on the aircraft, we have to perform each content accurately and meticulously, that is the beginning of safe flights and ensuring the completion of the mission,” said Lieutenant Nguyen Ngoc Linh.
Every day at around 6am, on the runway of Bien Hoa Airport, groups of Su-30MK2 fighter jets and helicopters of the Vietnam People's Air Force take off one after another, performing tactical formation exercises with many beautiful maneuvers. The pilots in the cockpit concentrate highly, controlling the aircraft along predetermined trajectories, closely coordinating with their teammates to create perfect flights, demonstrating the power of the Vietnam Air Force in the sky.
Lieutenant Colonel Ha Nang Luong, Deputy Political Commissar of Air Force Regiment 940, Air Force Officer School, Air Defense - Air Force, a veteran pilot said that each flight requires absolute precision, just a small deviation will affect the entire formation. To have a beautiful performance, the pilots must practice many times, master each control operation, ensure safety and demonstrate the strength of the Vietnam People's Air Force.
The aircraft was inspected and refueled by technical staff at Bien Hoa Airport to ensure the aircraft was always ready for takeoff.
“The most difficult thing when flying in formations of three or four aircraft is that the aircraft in the formation must perform tasks in unison. When performing tasks at low altitudes, the pilots must closely observe the team leader and closely coordinate the aircraft in the formation to have unified actions,” said Lieutenant Colonel Ha Nang Luong.
Before receiving the mission of flying to transfer the mobile field from Phu Cat Airport (Binh Dinh) to Bien Hoa Airport, the unit selected pilots with a lot of flying experience and good flying techniques to participate in the mission; organized for pilots and forces to learn about navigation, terrain and meteorological conditions at Bien Hoa Airport. After moving to Bien Hoa Airport, the unit continued to be instructed by Regiment 935 to get familiar with the terrain and meteorology and to deploy the flight content in the plan. Up to now, all pilots have caught up, practiced well and are ready to carry out the mission according to plan, Lieutenant Colonel Ha Nang Luong added.
Affirming the strength of the Air Defense - Air Force
In preparation for the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, the Vietnam People's Air Force has planned to divide it into 3 phases: Phase 1 - bringing all air forces of the Air Defense - Air Force to Bien Hoa Airport; Phase 2 - conducting comprehensive training for all types of aircraft and equipment in the Bien Hoa Airport area to familiarize themselves with the terrain of the Southeast region; Phase 3 - conducting a parade flight over the Independence Palace to affirm the strength of the Air Defense - Air Force, the strength of the Vietnam Army.
During training, Su-30MK2 flew in two formations of 3 and 4 aircraft.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Thanh Luan, Deputy Commander of the Training Regiment, Air Force Regiment 935, Air Force Division 307, Air Defense - Air Force Service said that this training course mobilized many aircraft from helicopters, jets, including fighter aircraft, which are the most modern equipment of the Vietnam People's Army. The pilots mobilized here are mostly comrades who have just been deployed to Bien Hoa Airport, so they have to get used to the terrain and meteorology because the weather in the Southeast region is entering the dry season, the heat has a great impact on the training process.
In addition, the flights are relatively complex, pilots need to be trained, closely monitored and need time to get used to and adapt to each flight. “Those are just initial difficulties, when we have a specific plan and practice, I firmly believe that every mission will be overcome and completed excellently. At the ceremony, many complex flights will be performed to affirm the position of the Army as well as celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification,” Lieutenant Colonel Tran Thanh Luan affirmed.
Su-30MK2 practiced flying in formation of three aircraft around the simulated grandstand to practice for the celebration.
With the determination to complete the mission excellently, the soldiers and pilots of the Air Defense - Air Force determined that the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and the reunification of the country is not only an occasion to review the heroic history of the nation but also an opportunity for the Army to affirm its mettle, strength and will to protect the Fatherland's sky. Through each flight, the Vietnam People's Air Force not only spreads pride but also demonstrates the technical level and combat ability, affirming the strength of the Air Defense - Air Force.
