Ukraine opens the way to Crimea

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on August 30 that taking control of the village of Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia province) this week was a strategic victory, opening the way for forces to penetrate deeper into Russian positions in the south in the direction of Crimea.

"After expanding the range to the slopes of Robotyne, we are opening the way to Tokmak and eventually Melitopol and the administrative border with Crimea," Kuleba said during a visit to Paris (France).

Meanwhile, TASS news agency quoted Mr. Yevgeny Balitsky, an official appointed by Russia to be in charge of Zaporizhzhia province, denying information that Ukraine had penetrated Russia's first line of defense and captured the village of Robotyne.

Allies worried about Ukraine counterattack

Mr Balitsky said Russian forces were still holding out south of the village and warned that areas outside the site would become a “mass grave for the Ukrainian armed forces”. He said the situation in Robotyne remained tense and the Ukrainian side had lost around 200 soldiers overnight.
