(NLDO) - With 3,355 classrooms and functional rooms in 22 districts in Ho Chi Minh City, only 18% of schools meet noise standards.
On December 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) released a report on classroom hygiene and hand hygiene monitoring in 2024, which highlighted a number of issues related to the school environment.
From September 23 to November 27, HCDC conducted monitoring at 95 schools, surveying a total of 3,355 classrooms and functional rooms in 22 districts in the city. The results showed that only 27 out of 95 schools (accounting for 28%) met the lighting requirements, with a light level of ≥ 300 lux.
Regarding noise, only 17 schools (18%) met the standard, i.e. ≤ 55 dBA. Schools located near traffic routes or exercise areas often had noise levels exceeding the permitted level.
Regarding CO2 concentration, only 27 schools (28%) met the requirements for this gas concentration (≤ 0.1%). Many schools use air conditioners but do not have exhaust fans, causing CO concentration to increase, exceeding the safety level for students and teachers.
In addition to monitoring the learning environment, HCDC also conducted a survey on hand hygiene in educational institutions. The results showed that 100% of schools had hand washing areas, 91% of schools met the appropriate ratio of students to hand washing taps, 100% of schools provided clean water in these areas, 98% of schools provided soap or hand sanitizer, and 99% of schools had hand washing instruction signs.
Regarding students' knowledge, 98% of students have been informed about proper hand washing; 97% of students believe that washing hands with soap regularly is important to protect health; and 91% of students agree that this habit should be formed from a young age.
