Numbeo's latest 2025 statistics score 146 selected countries and territories around the world to find the safest and least safe places using a safety index, which measures overall crime levels.

The safety index is scored using survey responses about how safe it is for residents and visitors to walk outside during the day or at night, as well as reports of homicides, robberies, sexual assaults, harassment, discrimination, property crimes, and more.

With the above criteria, Andorra, the sixth smallest country in Europe, becomes the safest place in the world. This landlocked country, located in the Pyrenees mountain range between Spain and France, has an area of 468 km2 and a small population of only about 85,101 people as of December 2023.

Andorra is almost entirely geared towards tourism, with duty-free shopping and numerous ski resorts dotted between towns nestled in the mountains.

Additionally, the country boasts a strong economy, virtually no crime, and the second-highest life expectancy in the world. All of which contribute to the country's overall safety.

Meanwhile, according to a survey from Numbeo, in Southeast Asia, Vietnam ranks 4th in terms of safety with 59.2 points.

Vietnam's safety index ranks behind Singapore, Brunei and Thailand. The remaining countries in the region that rank behind Vietnam in terms of safety index include the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

Previously, according to the Global Law and Order Index published by Gallup at the end of 2023, Vietnam was the most peaceful country in Asia and ranked 7th in the world.

Travel Off Path (USA) once ranked Vietnam as the safest destination in Asia for the 2024 tourist season. The author of the Travel Off Path article commented that Vietnam is much safer and more stable than the US and most European countries, where the rate of violence tends to increase.

On the other hand, research results from Numbeo show that Venezuela is the least safe country in the world, ranked 146 with a safety score of only 19.3.

This South American country shares borders with Colombia and Guyana. Venezuela currently faces a dangerous situation due to high levels of violent crime, political and economic instability, corruption, and the presence of criminal and terrorist groups.

Specifically, in this year's report, Vietnam ranked 2nd in Southeast Asia in terms of happiness index, ranking 46th out of 143 countries and territories ranked. With this figure, Vietnam increased 8 places compared to 2023.

The survey results are based on information received from participants assessing their overall lives.

The report then looked at six key factors to explain the ratings: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity and perceptions of corruption.
