On January 8, according to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), in the first week of 2024 (from December 29, 2023 to January 5, 2024), the city recorded 177 cases of dengue fever in 24 districts; a decrease of nearly 400 cases compared to the previous week and a decrease of more than 2,500 cases compared to the end of October and early November 2023.

Among the districts that recorded many patients last week, Dong Da led with 44 cases, followed by Ha Dong (19 cases); Thanh Oai (19 cases); Ba Vi (14 cases); Hai Ba Trung (12 cases); Hoang Mai (10 cases).
Thus, from the beginning of 2023 to now, Hanoi has recorded 40,656 cases of dengue fever (more than 2 times higher than the same period in 2022), including 4 deaths.
Patients are distributed in 30/30 districts, towns and cities; 575/579 communes, wards and towns. The total number of outbreaks in 2023 is 1,977, with 3 outbreaks currently active in Dong Da district.
According to the City CDC, the dengue fever epidemic has been basically controlled. The number of dengue fever cases each week is showing a continuous, clear, and rapid downward trend.
It is forecasted that in the first 3 months of 2024, the dengue fever epidemic trend will continue to decrease in the city due to the annual cold weather cycle, which is an unfavorable condition for the development of disease-transmitting mosquitoes.
However, the health sector recommends that people should not be subjective, thinking that the peak of the epidemic has passed and neglecting disease prevention measures, which could make the epidemic situation more complicated.
“People need to continue to maintain and regularly and continuously implement disease prevention measures such as: killing mosquitoes, killing larvae, removing containers of stagnant water to prevent disease-carrying mosquitoes from having an environment to breed and develop,” noted the Hanoi CDC.
Along with that, the Hanoi Department of Health requested the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to direct their affiliated units and related forces to continue implementing activities to handle cases and outbreaks effectively, focusing on handling complicated outbreaks with prolonged developments. At the same time, strengthen inspection and supervision in complicated outbreak areas and high-risk areas to assess the epidemic situation, thereby implementing appropriate and timely response activities.
