(CLO) The third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) officially concluded on Tuesday, marking one of China's most important political events of the year.

Not only are these two sessions of great significance to China's economy and politics, they have also attracted special attention from the international community, reflecting China's increasingly important position in the world. More than 3,000 domestic and foreign journalists participated in reporting on the event, showing a significant increase in media interest.

Why does the world care?

The main reason these two meetings attract global attention is because the decisions made not only affect China but also have a major impact on the world economy and politics.

With a target of 5% economic growth in 2025, China continues to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining sustainable development despite challenges from the global market.

In addition, these two sessions are also an opportunity for the world to observe China's governance model and how it ensures stability in the context of the global economy facing many fluctuations.

While many Western countries are struggling with high inflation and slow growth, Beijing has maintained tight control over its economy while continuing reform policies aimed at attracting foreign investment.

Technology and Livelihoods – 2 Main Themes

One of the highlights of this year’s session was the strong focus on technology and improving people’s lives. China is accelerating its development of artificial intelligence (AI), with DeepSeek – a homegrown AI product – reaching more than 30 million daily active users.

In addition, projects on robots for elderly care, developing lowland economies and investing in high-tech industries are also being vigorously implemented, helping the Chinese economy shift towards modernization.

Commitment to openness and global impact

Another highlight of the meeting was China’s pledge to further open up to foreign investment. The government announced it would completely remove restrictions on foreign investment in the manufacturing sector, while also easing market access rules in the telecommunications and health care sectors.

According to Bloomberg calculations based on data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), China is expected to contribute about 22% to global growth in the next five years, a figure larger than the combined share of all G7 countries. This shows China's irreplaceable role in the recovery and growth of the world economy.

With nearly 3,000 NPC delegates and more than 2,100 CPPCC members representing different walks of life, the two sessions not only reflect China's strategic priorities but also serve as a forum for the Beijing government to send messages to the world.

2025 marks the final year of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) and the year China begins strategic planning for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030). The decisions made at the two sessions this year will play a key role in guiding China's development in the coming decade.
