The construction of two new bridges across Gianh River and Quan Hau Bridge on National Highway 1A through Quang Binh Province will help relieve the burden on the two existing bridges, which often experience traffic congestion when traffic accidents occur.
On January 18, news from the leader of the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport - Investor) said that the XL - CHQL1 - 03 package for the construction of Gianh Bridge, Quan Hau Bridge and the bridge approach roads through Quang Binh province is part of the Project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1A and is being implemented by contractors to soon put into operation.
Specifically, the new bridge over Gianh River will be built at Km 625+733 and the approach roads through Bo Trach district and Ba Don town, Quang Binh province.
Quan Hau Bridge across Nhat Le River is a new bridge built at Km 671+238 through Quan Hau town and Vo Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district.
The two new bridges are designed with permanent reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete with a design speed of 80km/h and a width of 12m. The value of the two bridges is about 550 billion VND, constructed by Dat Phuong Construction Company.
According to Giao Thong Newspaper reporters, at the Gianh River bridge project, in the freezing cold winter weather, groups of contractor workers still divided themselves into areas and positions on barges, working diligently.
Operating a crane on a barge to drill a bridge pier, Nguyen Tien Hoi (40 years old) said that he and some workers had just come from the South and had not yet adapted to the cold winter weather here.
"We had to go to the construction site at dawn. The wind blew from the river, our hands were so cold we couldn't hold anything. It was quite hard to work in winter, but we had to gradually adapt," said Mr. Hoi.
On the shore, another group of workers were also busy welding. Their task was to weld iron cylinders to create concrete molds. Once the cylinders were finished, other groups of workers would bring them down to the barges to serve the drill bits in the middle of the river.
Engineer Nguyen Thanh Hoa (Dat Phuong Company) informed that there are 60 people at the construction site, including engineers and workers, divided into construction teams such as: temporary bridge team, bored pile construction team, iron making team...
According to engineer Hoa, the geology of the bottom part for drilling Gianh River bridge is not complicated, the water flow is normal. At this time, the unit has drilled 6 piles 60m deep with D1500 pipe at B5 pillar - cantilever pillar.
"According to the contract, the bridge is expected to be closed by the end of 2025 to be put into operation," engineer Hoa informed.
Similarly, in the Quan Hau bridge construction category, the contractor has also drilled 8 piles. Quan Hau bridge is expected to be put into operation in December 2025.
The project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1 (Xuong Giang, Gianh, Quan Hau bridges and Deo Ngang tunnel) was approved by the Ministry of Transport in Decision 729/QD-BGTVT dated June 13, 2024. This is a Group B project, with an implementation period of 3 years, with a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND.
The project's goal is to gradually invest in completing National Highway 1 according to the plan, with a synchronous scale, maximizing the effectiveness of investment in expanding National Highway 1, resolving bottlenecks on National Highway 1, reducing congestion, enhancing traffic safety, promoting socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security.
