Young artists have been renewing traditional values, in a direction that is closer and more accessible to young audiences.
MV "Bac Bling" by Hoa Minzy is a product combining two elements of entertainment and traditional culture that has attracted audiences in recent days.
Closer to young audiences
With an easy-to-listen melody, beautiful images, the impressive appearance of comedian Xuan Hinh and the unique cultural features of the Bac Ninh quan ho region, "Bac Bling" reached 30 million views, holding the No. 1 position on YouTube Vietnam's trending list after 7 days of release. The success of "Bac Bling" and similar products is not accidental. It is the result of a harmonious combination of the old and the new.
Previously, Phuong My Chi's combination of pop music and vọng cổ at the Lan Song Xanh awards ceremony caused a stir on social networks. The performance "Wrapped Miền Tây" including the songs "Hoang hon", "Ve mien Tay", "Vong co buon", "Con gai mien Tay", "Qua cau chuem em"... was skillfully combined by Phuong My Chi, Huynh Lap and Tieu Minh Phung between rap, vọng cổ and the typical melodies of the West.

Although the mashup genre, which synthesizes trends in a year, is not too new to the audience, "Wrapped in the West" is still praised for the smart handling of Phuong My Chi and her co-star. The female singer maintains the sweet timbre of the lyrical music genre, while mixing in modern singing to make the song closer to the young audience.
In the program "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai 2024", the performances combining tradition and modernity have really made an impression. The producer of the program "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" - Ms. Ngo Thi Van Hanh - shared: "Traditional culture is the source, it is already in everyone's heart. As long as we bring those good values to the audience in the way they want, those values will naturally spread strongly".
Stirring up the music scene
Recently, artist Xuan Hinh excitedly shared about collaborating with young artists. At the age of 64, Xuan Hinh said he likes rap and would also be very excited if a young singer invited him to sing rock music. Artist Xuan Hinh confided: "I want to encourage the young generation to continue to be creative, to renew old things". Sharing about the desire to collaborate between artist Xuan Hinh and Son Tung M-TP has caused a "heat up" on social networks. Because the audience believes that if this combination comes true, this will surely be a product that stirs up the music industry.
Each artist has their own choice, exploitation, and perception of different folk and cultural elements, thereby helping Vietnamese music become more diverse, colorful, and suitable for the tastes of young audiences.
Hoang Thuy Linh invested in her own concert to honor and affirm her artistic path associated with the quintessence of national culture. Jun Pham exploited the legendary story "Son Tinh - Thuy Tinh. ST Son Thach used folk materials for "Thuan nuoc dot thuyen" - his first composition...
In addition, artists also combine reformed opera with modern music in the program "Beautiful Sister Walking the Wind 2024"; People's Artist Bach Tuyet and rapper Wowy made a music video mixing pop, rap, world music and folk music in "Last Ray of Light". Tieu Minh Phung is a name that stands out to the audience when he often combines reformed opera with rap.
When mentioning Ha Myo (Nguyen Thi Ngoc Ha), the public will remember "Xam Ha Noi" - a music video showing the art of Xam singing combined harmoniously with rap and electronic music with modern choreography. From "Xam Ha Noi", "Xam Xuan Xanh", Ha Myo continues to attract attention with "Dap Nang Khot" (combining Muong folk songs with rap in Muong language and EDM); "Dan Ca Viet" combining Cheo, Hat Van, Hat Xam with People's Artist Thanh Ngoan...
According to insiders, folk culture is a precious treasure of the nation, containing profound spiritual, historical and artistic values. Exploiting this material is not simply a matter of mechanical application. Each element of folk culture has its own meaning, closely linked to the historical context, beliefs and spiritual life of the Vietnamese people.
Experts say that artists must spend time researching and understanding the meaning and context of traditional elements; they need to respect and understand the cultural values they are exploiting. Only then can musical works truly become a bridge between the past and the present, contributing to the preservation and promotion of national cultural identity.
