(Dan Tri) - In previous years, Foreign Trade University converted SAT scores on a 20-point scale and converted IELTS scores on a 10-point scale.
According to the 2025 enrollment plan just announced, Foreign Trade University has 3 ways to consider candidates with IELTS English certificates: IELTS with high school transcripts, IELTS with high school graduation exam scores, and IELTS with SAT/ACT/A-level.
Other international language certificates are also considered similarly.
In particular, the IELTS method using high school transcripts is only for students majoring in math, physics, chemistry, information technology, literature, foreign languages and students who have won national prizes, students who have won provincial prizes (First, Second, Third) in these subjects. The method is also applied to students who have won national science and technology prizes.
The IELTS requirement is 6.5 or higher. This score remains unchanged from previous years.
However, the requirements for SAT and ACT certificates vary.
If before 2024, Foreign Trade University only required SAT 1,260/1,600 and ACT 27/36, this year candidates need to achieve at least SAT 1,380 and ACT 30 to be eligible to apply.
In the newly announced enrollment plan, the school has not yet specified how to calculate admission scores as well as the method of converting international language certificates and international competency certificates.
Candidates can refer to the method of calculating admission scores and converting IELTS and SAT scores in 2024 as follows:
SAT and ACT score conversion table to 20-point scale in 2024 :
Conversion table of IELTS scores and other international language certificates to a 10-point scale in 2024 :
How to calculate admission scores using the method of combining IELTS with high school academic results in 2024 :
Admission score = M1 + M2 + M3 + priority points for prizes (if any) + priority points for policy subjects and regions (if any).
In which, M1 and M2 are the average scores of 5 semesters (from grade 10 to the end of semester I of grade 12) of two subjects: math - physics or math - chemistry or math - literature.
M3 is the converted international language certificate score or the converted national excellent student award in foreign language.
How to calculate admission scores using the method of combining IELTS with high school graduation exam results in 2024 :
Admission score = M1 + M2 + M3 + priority points for prizes (if any) + priority points for policy subjects and regions (if any).
In which, M1 and M2 are the 2024 high school graduation exam scores of the 2 subjects math - physics, or math - chemistry, or math - literature.
M3 is the conversion score for international language certificates or national excellent student awards in foreign languages.
How to calculate admission scores with the combined method of IELTS with SAT/ACT/A-level in 2024 :
Admission score = M1 + M2 + M3 + priority points for prizes (if any) + priority points for policy subjects and regions (if any).
In which, M1 is the conversion score of SAT/ACT certificate or math subject in A-level.
Candidates using SAT or ACT certificates do not have M2 scores. Because M2 is the conversion score for any subject other than math in A-level.
M3 is the conversion score for international language certificates or the conversion score for national excellent student awards in foreign languages.
For example, a candidate with SAT 1,380, IELTS 6.5, no national excellent student award and policy/regional priority points, if applying the 2024 conversion table, will have the following admission scores:
SAT 1,380 = 18 points.
IELTS 6.5 = 8.5 points
Admission score = M1 + M3 = 18 + 8.5 = 26.5 points.
This score is only enough to pass very few majors of Foreign Trade University in 2024 such as the high-quality program of Business Japanese, the high-quality program of Business French, and the high-quality program of International Business Administration.
With all 3 above admission score calculation formulas, if the candidate has used the national excellent student award to convert the M3 score, there will be no more prize priority points.
If a candidate has both an international language certificate and a national excellent student award, the national award priority points will be added 1-4 points corresponding to the Encouragement Prize, Third Prize, Second Prize and First Prize.
The above formulas do not apply to the Computer Science and Data Science in Economics and Business program.
