In this year's high school graduation exam, 9 high schools and 2 vocational education - continuing education centers had a 100% passing rate, the highest since 2019.

With quality solutions and effective methods, Hoa An High School (Phung Hiep district) has maintained its 5-year achievement of achieving a 100% high school graduation rate.

How to do, good solution

Hoa An High School, Phung Hiep District, implemented many innovative methods in testing and evaluating 12th grade students in the past school year. Mr. Nguyen Quang Hai, Vice Principal of Hoa An High School, shared: "The school applies the "1 on 1" model, not only 1 teacher tutoring 1 student at risk of failing graduation but also applies to students in the classroom, 1 good student tutoring 1 student who is not doing well".

The most difficult part of reviewing for 12th graders to graduate is to fill in the gaps in their knowledge and raise their learning awareness. The school focuses on improving their sense of responsibility, innovating teaching methods, and managing students in the review process so that each teacher can pay attention and support them wholeheartedly, especially tutoring weak students with low learning awareness to improve their learning. Promoting the effectiveness of the sense of responsibility, from 2018 to now, the school has maintained the achievement of 100% of its students passing the high school graduation exam. The school has 148/148 students passing the high school graduation exam.

Mr. Thach Ly Na, a chemistry teacher at Hoa An High School, shared: “Students with poor learning ability are often shy and reluctant to share difficulties with teachers and friends. Some students are playful, do not like to study, do not have a future orientation for themselves... so they neglect their studies. When reviewing for 12th graders, I often build groups of good students to support each other. Each study group is usually composed of 3-4 students with the same interests and learning abilities, including good, excellent, average, and weak, to support their progress.”

Maintaining its achievements for 8 consecutive years, from the 2015-2016 school year to present, Vi Thanh High School for the Gifted has achieved 100% of 12th graders passing the high school graduation exam. Every year, up to 80% of students pass their first choice university entrance exams at prestigious schools such as Ho Chi Minh City National University, Can Tho University, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy... Mr. Luu Van Lap, Vice Principal of the school, said: "The school's training goal does not stop at graduating from high school but is to enter prestigious domestic universities and study abroad... The school trains according to the students' abilities. The optimal teaching method, combining software applications in reviewing and practicing skills both directly and online... so that students can maximize their abilities, each theoretical lesson is always linked to practice and experience real technology".

In the 2023 high school graduation exam, Vi Thanh High School for the Gifted had 3 students in the top 6 candidates with the highest exam scores in the province. Do Tien Phat, a 12th grade student of the school, was the valedictorian of the province, with a total score of 55.1 points.

Innovation in teaching and learning methods

Achieving a 100% graduation rate for Chiem Thanh Tan High School in Vi Thanh City is a great joy. Mr. Nguyen Quoc So, Principal of the school, confided: "This rate has been achieved for a long time. It is thanks to changes in management and innovation in review methods for students that the school has achieved this result."

Sharing the secret to effective review, Mr. So said: “The school promotes and strengthens coordination with parents in managing students' study time such as through the Edu.One app (electronic communication app). From this app, we post and share a lot of information, guide skills, study materials... to help students be more proactive in their studies; during the final exam review period, the school invites parents to sign a commitment with the school to urge and support students in their studies. Teachers redesign lectures, exam matrices, review by topic, gently, with emphasis to ensure the most basic knowledge standards according to each student's ability group...”.

The school also bases on the exam results of the previous school year to assign targets for the average high school graduation exam score for each subject and each teacher. Chiem Thanh Tan High School bases on the survey scores of students after each exam to classify students into groups of abilities and organize review sessions for students according to their abilities and goals, helping them have the motivation to surpass themselves. In 2022, the school only had 238/245 students pass the graduation exam, a rate of only 97.14% lower than the general rate of the province. By 2023, with effective and determined methods, 265/265 students of the school graduated from high school.

As one of the two centers in the province with a 100% high school graduation rate, Mr. Ho Thanh Tri, Director of the Center for Vocational Education - Continuing Education of Chau Thanh A district, shared: "During the review process, each teacher strengthens the skills of taking exams for students. Understanding the psychology of students who like to use technology, to create excitement for students to study, we encourage teachers to guide students to study on software, use Zalo groups in coordination in studying, manage groups and classes to assign homework to students, encourage them to self-study and get acquainted with many different types of questions, exercises, and multiple choice questions on digital platforms". The center assigns experienced teachers with good professional skills to help average and weak students with the knowledge they have missed so that they can keep up with the curriculum, combining multiple-choice and objective tests, and theoretical and practical tests... Teachers maintain and improve the requirements for applying interdisciplinary knowledge into practice, enhancing students' professional practice skills.

According to published data, the rate of high school graduates in 2023 in the whole province reached 98.58% (including high school and continuing and free education). This rate increased by 0.26% compared to the rate of high school graduates in 2022.

Ms. Tran Thi Huyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: “In addition to the efforts in organizing exam review for students right in each class hour of schools, students proactively updating more knowledge, types of exercises from online learning software, reputable online lecture stores, is also a scientific and effective learning method. The results of this year's exam have shown the rise, innovation in teaching, improving the quality of each school and center, when each year gradually increases the graduation rate, the number of schools, vocational education - continuing education centers reaching 100%...”.
