Vinh Phuc, a land of gentle and poetic rivers, is now facing a major challenge: water pollution. The rivers that used to be the source of life and the pride of the people are being negatively affected by production and living activities. This is also a wake-up call on the issue of protecting water resources and rivers.
Phan River, a river originating from Tam Dao mountain range, flows through many localities in the province with the task of regulating water and draining floods for the province. However, many sections of the river flowing through residential areas have become a giant garbage dump. Duckweed, garbage, domestic wastewater... all flow here, blocking the water surface, turning the river surface into a floating garbage dump.
On the Pho Day River, the section flowing through the old Lien Son Bridge has also become an involuntary garbage dump due to the dam. Sacks containing dead animals float on the river, forming rafts, causing serious pollution to the river section. The water source for daily life and irrigation of people living along the river is also severely affected. Although the irrigation units periodically organize garbage collection to clear the flow. However, the efforts of these units to collect garbage are just like a drop in the ocean.
There are 7 rivers flowing through Vinh Phuc province, including 4 main rivers and 3 small rivers. Most of the small rivers flow through residential areas, so they are affected by waste that pollutes water sources. Faced with this alarming situation, localities and units assigned to exploit river water sources are making efforts to protect water sources from pollution. Many projects to renovate and dredge riverbeds have been implemented, and propaganda activities to raise public awareness have been promoted. But all of this is still not enough.
Protecting rivers is not only the responsibility of the government, but also the responsibility of the whole society. If every citizen raises awareness, joins hands to act, and does not litter the riverbed, it will be an opportunity for the rivers in Vinh Phuc in particular and the world in general to be revived, so that the theme of World Water Day 2025 will not just be a slogan, but become a reality.
