On the afternoon of June 21, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long chaired a meeting with ministries and branches on preparations and organization of the 2024 High School Graduation Exam.
The meeting took place just one week before the start of an exam that is crucial for more than 1 million candidates.
Also attending were Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son and representatives of a number of relevant ministries, branches and agencies.
6 tasks have been well implemented to serve the high school graduation exam
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2024 High School Graduation Exam is a major exam. About 200,000 officials will be mobilized to participate in the organization of the exam, such as officials, teachers in the education sector, police, military, health, electricity, etc.
The total number of candidates registered for the exam is 1,071,393 (an increase of more than 45,000 candidates compared to 2023), of which 46,978 are independent candidates, accounting for 4.38% of the total number of candidates; 1,014,020 candidates registered online, accounting for 94.66% of the total number of candidates, the remaining candidates registered directly are independent candidates and a small number are grade 12 students who cannot register online for various reasons.
The total number of candidates registered for exemption from foreign language exam is 66,927 candidates, accounting for 6.25% of the total number of candidates.
On June 15, the Ministry of Education and Training sent the official exam papers to the Departments of Education and Training for printing. The Ministry of Education and Training will send the reserve exam papers to the Departments of Education and Training on June 23.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, Head of the National Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam, said that this is the last High School Graduation Exam for students studying under the 2006 general education program. However, the nature, scale, and level of this exam are the same as every year.
Reporting on the exam preparation work, Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong said that there are 6 points that have been well implemented up to this point, namely the system of documents for organizing the exam was issued early and fully from the central to local levels; the apparatus for managing the exam preparation work was organized very early; professional work from training, software, inspection, invigilation, and grading has been completed; equipment and facilities for the exam have been strengthened; coordination between ministries, branches and communication work is very good.
From the above 6 characteristics, "it can be assessed that up to this point, we are ready to organize a safe, serious, thoughtful, and friendly exam," Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuong affirmed.
Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong emphasized the spirit of creating all favorable conditions for candidates to take the exam, especially candidates from disadvantaged areas and ethnic minority areas. No candidate due to economic difficulties or transportation difficulties will be prevented from taking the exam. He also affirmed that candidates will absolutely not be allowed to bring phones or technological devices into the exam room.
At the meeting, representatives of ministries and branches spoke, clearly stating the work of ensuring security and safety for the exam, keeping exam papers confidential; preventing and handling cheating situations using high-tech equipment; ensuring medical work serving the exam. Proactively preparing plans related to fire, explosion, traffic accidents, floods, etc.
Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Ngo Van Cuong said that 1,593 exam support teams have been established at exam sites nationwide with more than 58,700 volunteers. Volunteers will coordinate with authorities in traffic control at exam sites, assist candidates in finding exam rooms, completing exam procedures, providing free drinking water and meals, and supporting candidates in difficult circumstances to get to exam sites safely. Some provinces and cities will form free motorbike taxi teams.
"100% of exam sites have youth volunteers on duty to support candidates during exam days," said Mr. Ngo Van Cuong.

Le Thanh Long stated that this is a particularly important exam when the whole society is interested in education and exams.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that it is necessary to well implement Directive 15/CT-TTg dated May 16, 2024 of the Prime Minister on strengthening direction and coordination in organizing the High School Graduation Exam and University and Vocational Education Entrance Exam in 2024 to ensure that the exam takes place safely and meets the set requirements. Absolutely do not be negligent or subjective, the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
The Ministry of Education and Training, relevant ministries, sectors and agencies continue to make efforts and proactively carry out assigned tasks, including the application of information technology to serve the exam and secure exam papers. Strengthen the implementation of solutions to prevent and combat cheating in exams, and do not allow candidates to bring technological devices to cheat into the exam room. In particular, it is necessary to strengthen inspection, supervision and monitoring before and during the exam.
It is necessary to proactively have plans to respond to unusual situations that may occur such as unusual weather developments...
The health sector needs to pay attention to implementing disease prevention and control, environmental sanitation, food safety; ensuring medical examination and treatment for candidates and those participating in the organization of the exam with health problems.
The Ministry of Public Security deploys professional measures to ensure absolute security and safety for the Exam.
The Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to direct all levels of the Youth Union to actively support candidates so that they can participate in the exam fully and safely.
