On the afternoon of October 9, information from the People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak), related to the strange smell in Tan Loi Ward, affecting the teaching and learning of some schools, the city's functional agencies have checked and discovered the location suspected of emitting a strange smell from a spontaneous landfill.
The landfill is located in Tan An ward, adjacent to Tan Loi ward and all waste has been collected and treated by units.
Buon Ma Thuot city has requested relevant units to continue clarifying the cause of these strange smells.
Mr. Vu Thanh Phuong, Vice Chairman of Tan Loi Ward People's Committee, said that at the spontaneous landfill located at the intersection of Ton Duc Thang and Van Tien Dung streets, a number of pesticide bottles and packaging were discovered.
According to Mr. Phuong, the local government wants to find out the cause of the incident soon so as not to cause panic and affect the health of people, teachers and students.
Today (October 9), the smell has decreased, so 2 schools in Tan Loi ward have allowed students to return to school.
As Dan Tri reported, on the morning of October 8, at Nguyen Duc Canh Primary School (Tan Loi Ward), a strange smell like pesticide appeared, causing 2 teachers to faint and have to be hospitalized for treatment.
The school stopped students from eating lunch and allowed more than 1,200 students to take a day off in the afternoon to ensure safety.
Tan Loi Kindergarten, Tan Loi Ward was also affected by this strange smell and had to let students stay home on the afternoon of October 8.
The strange and unpleasant smell also affected the residential area and the Tan Loi Ward People's Committee headquarters. Therefore, the authorities have stepped in to determine the cause of this incident.
