This is the proposal of Chairman and General Director of the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) Tao Duc Thang at a working session with Mr. Jensen Huang, Chairman and CEO of NVIDIA Corporation (USA).
Viettel Chairman and General Director Tao Duc Thang (middle) welcomes Mr. Jensen Huang, Chairman and CEO of NVIDIA Corporation (second from right), to visit Viettel headquarters.
During his visit and work in Vietnam, Mr. Jensen Huang, Chairman and CEO of NVIDIA Corporation - the world's most valuable chip manufacturer with a market value of nearly 1,200 billion USD, had a working session and shared with Viettel about the opportunity to build AI infrastructure.
Mr. Jensen Huang highly appreciated Viettel's participation in building national infrastructure, which is an opportunity and foundation to build digital intelligence for Vietnam. From there, it contributes to building a new economy, new products, new services and new businesses, making Vietnam the most valuable resource, which is intelligence created from supercomputers.
"Viettel and NVIDIA are of similar age, being infrastructure companies that were born when the internet was first built. The internet created a digital world, and now our industry is facing a new wave, AI. This wave is in its infancy and requires infrastructure," Mr. Jensen Huang emphasized.
At the meeting, Mr. Tao Duc Thang suggested that NVIDIA cooperate with Viettel in both pillars of AI technology: supercomputer infrastructure and human resource training.
Viettel proposed to cooperate with NVIDIA to build, invest, trade, and operate supercomputer infrastructure using GPUs, initially with a scale of 1,000 GPUs by 2025.
"Viettel has large financial resources, synchronous data center infrastructure planning and human resources to ensure implementation progress," Mr. Thang shared, and proposed to work with NVIDIA to establish an AI training center, train human resources, build an ecosystem, and promote AI innovation for both sides and the region. This training center will be located in Viettel's existing training facilities with tools and curriculum designed and supported by NVIDIA.
Discussing the strategy of building data centers, Mr. Huang said that priority should be given to investing in centralized data centers instead of many small infrastructures.
NVIDIA President and CEO Jensen Huang
NVIDIA CEO also shared with Viettel AI team about building a large Vietnamese language model, the foundation technology of famous generative AI today. Mr. Jensen Huang assessed that this is a product within Viettel's reach in the next few years, the reason is that computing systems are improving at a rate of double each year and training large language models is becoming easier.
In the field of artificial intelligence, Viettel is also cooperating with NVIDIA to accelerate the research and application of AI in areas such as computer vision, natural language processing, digital copy, robotics, etc. Viettel joins NVIDIA's global partner network, marking an important milestone in implementing the national AI strategy, contributing to bringing Viettel's AI solutions to the international market.
