Vietnam - France promote cooperation in aviation and high-speed railway

(NLDO)- Airbus is currently the largest aircraft supplier for Vietnamese airlines with 79 aircraft for Vietnam Airlines and 94 aircraft for Vietjet Air.


On March 21, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh received and worked with Minister in charge of Transport (under the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion) Philippe Tabarot on promoting cooperation in the field of transport between Vietnam and France.

Minister Philippe Tabarot said that transportation is one of the priority and important areas that France and Vietnam have promoted together for many years, including aviation cooperation.

This is also an area with a long history in bilateral relations. The two sides have had cooperation agreements between the French General Directorate of Civil Aviation and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam; between Airbus and Vietnamese airlines...

Minister Tran Hong Minh said that Vietnam and France have established diplomatic relations for more than 50 years. The two sides have promoted comprehensive cooperation and maintained regular dialogue mechanisms in all areas, including air transport, such as: Airbus is the largest aircraft supplier for Vietnamese airlines with 79 aircraft for Vietnam Airlines and 94 aircraft for Vietjet Air; Vietnam Airlines and Air France regularly exploit the market between the two countries (in 2024, the total number of flights reached 1,440 flights, an increase of 4.1% compared to 2023); coordinated assessment of the plan to modernize the aircraft fleet by 2030, with a vision to 2035.

In addition, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the French General Directorate of Civil Aviation also signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement in 2018 to support the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam in improving its capacity in the field of aviation safety supervision and flight operations management...

In addition, French company ADPi won the bid to consult on the review of detailed planning for Da Nang, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc and Con Dao International Airports for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. ADPi is also the unit that prepared the detailed planning for Noi Bai International Airport for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, funded by the French Government, with a total value of nearly 570 thousand euros.

On this occasion, the Minister suggested that the two sides continue to increase support and share experiences in state management of aviation, while creating favorable conditions for aviation enterprises of the two countries to operate more effectively and successfully in the coming time, as well as support training to improve the capacity of aviation safety supervisors, flight operations management, and technical support for assessing the index of runway classification.

Immediately after the meeting and working session with Minister Tran Hong Minh, Minister Philippe Tabarot was received by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The Prime Minister said that Vietnam highly encourages, always welcomes and requests the French side to promote French enterprises to increase cooperation and investment in Vietnam in the fields of transportation, especially participating in large infrastructure projects. In particular, promoting Airbus to cooperate and transfer technology with Vietnamese airlines to open aircraft repair and maintenance facilities (hangars) at airports; cooperating in developing the aviation economy, exploiting outer space, underground space, and sea space; implementing railway and seaport projects, bringing in more large ships, opening more direct transport routes to Vietnam; public-private cooperation in developing roads, etc.

The Minister agreed with the Prime Minister's opinion on the bilateral relationship and promoting relations in the field of transport more effectively. France and French enterprises are always ready to cooperate with Vietnam, especially in supporting and cooperating in implementing strategic transport infrastructure projects, as well as cooperating in human resource training, exchanging experiences, learning from each other, creating better quality products and services to serve the people, connecting the two countries.

During the visit of Minister Philippe Tabarot, the French side chaired and coordinated with the Ministry of Construction to organize the Vietnam-France Workshop on high-speed railway.
