Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Religious Affairs - Ms. Diana Mondino paid an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, from March 19 to 20, 2024. This is the first visit to Vietnam by Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Religious Affairs - Ms. Diana Mondino since taking office in December 2023.
During this visit, Ms. Diana Mondino met with leaders and senior officials of the Vietnamese Government with the aim of strengthening the comprehensive partnership between Argentina and Vietnam.
At the press conference, Ms. Diana Mondino said that her official visit to Vietnam went well. She discussed and agreed on many important issues with Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, including the issue of market opening; the need to soon start negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), and continue to coordinate to promote cooperation between Argentina and ASEAN, as well as between Mercosur and ASEAN.
Ms. Diana Mondino emphasized that Vietnam is a typical example of a successful country thanks to strong integration and vibrant foreign trade. "Vietnam's motto of wanting to be friends with all countries in the world has brought Vietnam the development it has today and Vietnam has a lot of experience to share with Argentina in this matter" - Ms. Diana Mondino emphasized.
At the same time, assessing the bilateral cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Argentina, Ms. Diana Mondino affirmed that there have been positive developments in the relationship between the two countries in recent times in politics, diplomacy, economy, trade; cooperation at international multilateral forums, security, defense... "The Argentine government always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen relations with Vietnam in its overall policy towards the Asia-Pacific region" - Ms. Diana Mondino said.

In 2023, the two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Argentina will reach 3.45 billion USD. Vietnam is currently the 6th largest trading partner and the 5th largest export market of Argentina globally, while Argentina is the 3rd largest trading partner of Vietnam in Latin America.
Minister Diana Mondino said that the economies of Vietnam and Argentina are complementary. Argentine goods can be used as raw materials for Vietnam to process export products. “Argentina exports leather to Vietnam and Vietnam produces goods for export to other markets,” said Diana Mondino.
Based on the potential for trade cooperation, according to the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Religious Affairs, Argentina and Vietnam are working hard to negotiate to meet each other's technical standards, facilitating trade between the two countries' goods. Argentina has opened its market to a number of Vietnamese goods.
On the other hand, Vietnam has also licensed the import of beef, goat and lamb products into the Vietnamese market and has been highly appreciated by consumers. According to Minister Diana Mondino, this is a very favorable condition for Vietnam and Argentina to promote economic and trade cooperation in the coming time. At the same time, she expressed her hope that the exchange of goods between the two countries will continue to be promoted because Argentina still has a lot of potential for agricultural products.
Responding to the press about promoting negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and Mercosur, Ms. Diana Mondino said that Argentina and Vietnam have agreed to promote the early launch of negotiations on the Trade Agreement between Vietnam and Mercosur; along with that, continue to coordinate to promote cooperation between Argentina and ASEAN, as well as between Mercosur and ASEAN.
At the press conference, the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Religious Affairs also highly appreciated the prospects of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture, education, academic and artistic exchanges. In particular, she hoped that the two countries would continue to support each other in multilateral forums and hoped that Vietnam would support the Argentine candidate for the position of leader of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).
