Vietnam spends nearly 1.87 billion USD to import complete cars

According to preliminary statistics just announced by the General Department of Customs, in July 2023, the country imported 8,929 complete cars of all kinds, with a total turnover of more than 217 million USD, down 0.9% in volume but down 13.1% compared to the previous month.

Thailand continues to lead the market share of imported cars in July 2023

In the first 7 months of 2023, the whole country imported nearly 80,000 complete automobiles of all kinds (79,822 automobiles), with a total turnover of nearly 1.87 billion USD, an increase of 2.4% in volume and 0.1% in turnover over the same period last year.

Thailand continues to lead the market share of automobile imports in July 2023 and the first 7 months of 2023 with the results: 3,714 vehicles, turnover of nearly 84 million USD in July and 36,087 vehicles, turnover of 762.2 million USD in the first 7 months of 2023.

Indonesia ranked second with 3,520 vehicles, worth 47.85 million USD in July 2023 and 29,498 vehicles, worth 399.63 million USD in the first 7 months of 2023.

Next, China ranked third with 591 vehicles, worth nearly 26 million USD in July 2023 and 6,420 vehicles, worth 250.4 million USD in the first 7 months of 2023.

With 72,005 vehicles, the three major markets in Asia accounted for 90.2% of the total imported automobiles of the country in the first 7 months of the year.

Previously, in 2022, Vietnam imported 173,467 cars of all kinds, with a total turnover of 3.84 billion USD, up 8.5% in volume and 5.1% in turnover compared to 2021. This is the year with the highest number of imported cars ever, far exceeding the results of the previous record year of 2021 with nearly 160,000 cars.

Indonesia and Thailand are the two largest import markets. Of these, Indonesia surpasses Thailand in the number of imported cars, however, the “Land of Golden Pagodas” still ranks number 1 in terms of turnover.

Specifically, last year, Vietnam imported 72,671 cars from Indonesia, worth more than 1.05 billion USD; while Thailand imported 72,032 cars, worth 1.43 billion USD. China ranked third with 17,340 cars, worth 714.5 million USD.

With 162,043 vehicles, the three markets mentioned above alone accounted for 93.4% of the country's imported vehicles in 2022, even exceeding the total imported vehicle volume in 2021.
