Essential items to help avoid the sun when going to the beach

SUNSCREEN

This is an indispensable item when doing outdoor activities, especially in hot weather. The ultraviolet rays in sunlight or blue light are the cause of a series of skin problems such as: skin cancer, darkening, melasma, burning... Using sunscreen helps create a protective barrier for the skin against the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays (UV) and prevents aging.

According to the National Institute of Dermatology, when going outdoors and exposed to intense sunlight, you should choose a sunscreen with a high SPF. For example, when going to the beach in the summer, you should use a sunscreen with an SPF of 50+, and when working in an environment without direct sunlight, you should use a sunscreen with a lower SPF.

Don't forget sunscreen, sunglasses and hats for outdoor activities on your upcoming vacation.

You should choose a cream that is suitable for your skin area and skin type (oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin...). Apply at least 20 minutes before going out in the sun. All skin areas need to be protected, especially areas that are directly exposed to sunlight. Facial skin is often given the most priority for care. If possible, apply sunscreen to your arms, legs, and body.

SUNGLASSES

Doctor Hoang Cuong (Central Eye Hospital) said that UV rays can be harmful to the eyes. Cataracts and eye cancer develop silently over many years. Every time you are exposed to the sun without protecting your eyes, you increase your risk of dangerous diseases.

UV radiation, whether from natural sunlight or artificial indoor rays, can damage the surface tissues of the eye as well as the cornea and lens. Wearing UV-blocking sunglasses can help you enjoy your vacation more safely on a sunny summer day, while reducing your risk of eye diseases and some tumors of the eyelid skin and ocular surface.

A good pair of sunglasses is a must for summer beach trips. Make sure to use sunglasses that block 100% of UV rays, UV400 type or the type that blocks both UV-A and UV-B rays.

UMBRELLAS, HATS, SUN PROTECTION CLOTHES

Dr. Hoang Cuong also recommends adding some other items, although simple, that can protect your eyes from the harmful effects of UV rays such as: wearing a hat and sunglasses. A wide-brimmed hat is best. The sun is strongest between noon and early afternoon, accompanied by the highest UV rays. Clouds do not block UV rays. UV rays can penetrate through clouds. Not seeing the sun does not mean we are safe from UV rays.

In addition, adding a layer of protection such as using an umbrella or wearing a shirt made of breathable, sweat-absorbent material also helps minimize the harmful effects of sunlight and reduce heat absorption for the body.

These are extremely necessary items in hot weather, not only for travel but also for use anytime, anywhere. Use them regularly to help avoid the heat and avoid the risks of sunlight.

In addition, it is important to avoid direct exposure to hot sunlight for long periods of time, especially from 9am to 3pm.
