UNESCO proposes new requirements for Lang Son Geopark

UNESCO has set out requirements for candidate Geoparks that they must have outstanding geological and natural landscape values, and especially must be different from other Geoparks.

Lang Son Geopark was established in 2021, by 2023, the boundary will be adjusted to 8/11 districts and cities, with an area of ​​about 4,842 km2 and a population of about 627,000 people (accounting for 58% of the area and 78% of the province's population).

Lang Son Geopark has diverse and distinct values ​​in geology and natural landscape, formed from 5 typical terrain types: tectonic, erosional, denudation, accumulation and karst...

In recent times, the province has made efforts to build Lang Son Geopark to meet the criteria to be recognized as a Global Geopark in order to preserve and promote the overall heritage values ​​of geology, culture, history, archeology, biodiversity as well as the unique landscapes of the locality.

The province initially formed 4 routes with 38 tourist attractions in Lang Son Geopark including: Exploring the world of the upper mountains; journey to the heavenly realm; rustic life on earth; road to the aquarium...

Previously, in the Field Assessment Program for the application for recognition of Lang Son Geopark as a Global Geopark, from July 6 to 9, the UNESCO expert team conducted field visits at 26/38 tourist attractions on 4 Lang Son Geopark tourist routes in the districts of Bac Son, Binh Gia, Van Quan, Huu Lung, Chi Lang, Cao Loc, Loc Binh and Lang Son city.
