On the morning of August 31, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (Vusta) organized a mass media conference on the activities of the Vietnam Union of Associations.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, said: After more than 40 years of construction and development, Vusta has formed a 2-level organizational system in accordance with the spirit of Directive No. 42-CT/TW dated April 16, 2010 of the 10th Politburo.
Up to now, Vusta has become a large political and social organization in both scale and quality. Vusta has proactively proposed and advised the Party and State on many major issues in science and technology, education and training, and policies for intellectuals.
Vusta's press system currently has 70 press agencies. Although the number of press agencies is large, the transmission of information about Vusta is still not really effective and has not promoted its inherent strengths. Vusta has not effectively used mass media to target large audiences, nor proposed solutions to bring Vusta's image closer to the public.
In this workshop, through the presentations of the speakers, the Association will be able to properly assess its position, role, and reputation corresponding to its potential media power; the reasons why the Association's image has not been effectively communicated; thereby providing solutions for the press and the Association to effectively carry out communication work.
Talking about social media, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of the Economic and Urban Newspaper, said that social media is based on online services, news can be exchanged between two or more individuals and spread rapidly in "virtual space".
From a content perspective, the nature of social media is an equal personal connection in the process of connecting and transmitting news. This is a clear difference between social media and traditional media - where professional press agencies play the role of the nucleus connecting the media and reporting news.
With the ability to report, share, attract, and search for information quickly, in this regard, social media has an advantage over traditional press. However, press still has a solid and important position in the current open information "battlefield", if it maintains quality, considers content as "king", technology as "queen"; at the same time, combines the advantages that social media brings, thereby strengthening and increasing the value of traditional press.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi emphasized that social media is a reference source - a tool for collecting and evaluating information, communicating with sources... In the movement and development of modern journalism, the use and integration of social media is one of the development trends that cannot be ignored.
Discussing the solution to build an effective communication strategy for the press system of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Mr. Vu Xuan Ban - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Culture and Development Magazine suggested that the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations should continue to organize meetings and provide information about press work periodically every quarter, which is very necessary, helping the press agencies of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations have the conditions to express their thoughts and aspirations.
In addition, the Communication and Knowledge Dissemination Board needs to study and propose to the leaders of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations to organize the Outstanding Science, Technology and Social Culture Press Award to honor press agencies, authors, and scientists with outstanding achievements in propaganda activities, dissemination of science and technology knowledge, economic development, and social culture in the press system of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations./.
