The rule of requiring a pass to enter the restroom at Yangjiang Experimental Middle School in Guangdong, China has become a hot topic of discussion in recent days.

Duong Giang Experimental Secondary School also 'set up checkpoints' at the restrooms to control the number of times students enter and exit. If students want to go, they must show their cards.

Immediately after the clip was widely shared on social media, most parents said that the school was over-controlling. " Students are no different from prisoners under house arrest," one person commented.

Responding to the conflicting opinions, the school representative said that this is an internal student management measure. " The reason we have to issue this notice is to maintain order in the restrooms, to avoid students gathering in large numbers and causing accidents during rush hour ," the school representative informed.

The school added that this rule can avoid congestion when students line up to go to the toilet.

Accordingly, this regulation was introduced by the school to reduce the number of times students use the restroom during class to improve learning efficiency. To reassure parents, the school emphasized that students without a pass will have more time to go to the restroom.

After the incident caused much controversy, a representative of the Department of Education of Duong Giang City said: " A toilet pass is necessary, but students do not always present it.

Toilet access cards should be used in special cases. Schools need to be more flexible in their management measures."

The local Education Department added that it has initially taken measures to remind schools to set regulations for students. "School regulations must respect the rights and needs of students. At the same time, maintain safety and order on campus and promote the progress and development of education ," a representative of the Education Department said.

However, this incident is still controversial. One person said that according to the Chinese Education Law, schools must respect the honor and dignity of students. Therefore, requiring students to have a card to use the toilet is a violation of this.
