The incident began in March when a man surnamed Lou, who claimed to be an associate professor at a department at Zhejiang University (China), posted on an online dating forum. According to Chao News , the post quickly attracted attention and sparked heated debate.

In the post, Lou (35 years old) introduced himself as 1.75m tall, 70kg in weight, with a PhD from a top Chinese university and an annual income of more than 1 million yuan (about more than 3.5 billion VND). He also shared his interests in sports, financial investment and said that his family is well-off, living in Yiwu city, Zhejiang province.

Associate Professor Lou set the criteria that his girlfriend must be born after 2000, about 10 years younger than him, between 1.65m and 1.71m tall, slim and attractive. In addition, she must have a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree from one of the nine prestigious universities in China. Those who graduated from foreign universities ranked in the top 20 in the world can also be considered.

"If she has a law or medical degree, that would be a bonus," Lou wrote. He also left open the possibility of accepting someone who did not attend a school on the list, but had outstanding strengths in appearance, family background or personal ability.

The post sparked a wave of criticism on Chinese social media, with many saying that Lou had turned love into a calculated business rather than a sincere relationship.

In response to the public backlash, on March 17, Lou's workplace issued a statement confirming that the post had not been verified by Associate Professor Lou. "The article contains some inaccurate information," the school representative said, without elaborating. The school also said that Lou had reported the incident to the police.

However, according to SCMP , this incident continues to cause controversy on Chinese social media. Some people defend Lou, saying that he has the right to set high standards when looking for a partner. "He is excellent, it is reasonable to be picky. Many people are just jealous," one netizen commented.

However, many people condemned the doctor's approach. "It's sad for education. He sees love as a transaction," one social media user expressed his opinion.
