Firstly, students of the Ethnic Boarding School who graduate from junior high school are admitted directly to grade 10 of the Ethnic Boarding School.
Second, the students are ethnic minorities, belonging to one of 16 ethnic groups including: Cong, Mang, Pu Peo, Si La, Co Lao, Bo Y, La Ha, Ngai, Chut, O Du, Brau, Ro Mam, Lo Lo, Lu, Pa Then, La Hu.
Third, students with disabilities. These are students who have one or more body parts that are defective or have impaired functions that are manifested in an abnormal form, making it difficult for them to work, live, and study.
Fourth, students who win national prizes organized by the Ministry of Education and Training or in coordination with ministries and ministerial-level agencies on a national scale with competitions, exams, and festivals on culture, arts, sports, and scientific and technical research competitions.
Fifth, secondary school students who won prizes in international competitions are selected by the Minister of Education and Training.

Candidates belonging to one of the five above-mentioned categories are only eligible to register for direct admission if they (or their parents or guardians) have permanent residence in Hanoi.
In case students are eligible for direct admission but do not wish to be admitted directly, they must take the entrance exam to grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools for the 2025-2026 school year. In case students wish to be admitted directly to self-financed public high schools or private high schools, they must contact and register directly with the school.
Regarding the direct admission schedule, on April 18, students submit their application to the educational institution where they study grade 9. No later than May 23, the Department of Education and Training will announce the list of students admitted for direct admission.
In addition to the 5 cases of direct admission, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also stipulates adding 1-2 priority points for students who are children of policy families.
The entrance exam for grade 10 of public high schools in Hanoi took place over two days, June 7-8. Candidates completed three exams: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language (English, French, German, Japanese, Korean). This school year, Hanoi has about 127,000 junior high school graduates, a decrease of nearly 6,000 compared to last year. Of these, 79,000 students were admitted to public grade 10 schools, while 48,000 students will study at private high schools, vocational training centers, and continuing education centers.
