Candidates in Ho Chi Minh City before the 2024 high school graduation exam in math

As reported by Thanh Nien , in a press conference held this afternoon, June 28, Mr. Pham Dang Khoa, Director of the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training, said that during the math exam that took place the previous afternoon, several testing sites in the area discovered that some test codes had 1-3 questions printed faintly due to a printing technical error. Immediately, the test supervisor reported this to the head of the testing site.

According to Mr. Khoa, some test sites have handled the issue in accordance with the regulations, using backup test codes instead, but there are also some test sites that have handled it with limitations. And to ensure the rights of candidates, Mr. Khoa said that the Department has proposed to the National Examination Steering Committee to give the maximum score to candidates affected by the blurred test error, which is 0.2 points per question. Thus, candidates can automatically get 0.2 - 0.6 points for blurred questions, regardless of whether they choose the correct or incorrect answer.

And this immediately sparked a lot of controversy.

In a community group for students attracting about 2 million members, many opinions expressed opposition. Account LVT frankly said: "There is no such thing, 0.2 is enough to pass or fail [your wish]". Many common accounts were indignant: "Such fierce competition and you say that", "It's unclear but 0.2 points is still worth arguing about"...

Natural Science Exam: Difficult to Get 9 Points Teachers Predict Standard Scores Will Decrease

L.D, a candidate taking the 2024 high school graduation exam in Ho Chi Minh City, commented that Dak Lak's proposal to get full marks for the blurred questions was "unreasonable", because many candidates had to spend years studying just to get an extra 0.2 points, while those who made mistakes only needed a few minutes. "Just 0.2 points can make one person pass and many others fail," said D.

QN, a candidate in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, also said that if only points were added in Dak Lak province, the competition rate would increase even more, while just 0.2 points is enough to change a candidate's entire future.

A candidate in Ho Chi Minh City had to take the math exam on crutches because his leg was in a cast.

However, there are also opinions that the education sector leaders in Dak Lak should find a more reasonable solution to protect the rights of candidates. Because, according to a candidate in Nam Dinh province, even if the Department of Education and Training of this province chooses not to handle or increase the score, there will still be some controversy and dissatisfaction. "If we count the maximum number of those errors, it will be somewhat unfair to us because it is not certain that you will get it right even if the questions are printed clearly," said this candidate.

Master Bui Van Cong, an online exam preparation teacher in Ho Chi Minh City, said the proposal to give full marks to all candidates involved for the blurred question was not feasible and would cause frustration among candidates in other provinces and cities because this was only a local error and did not affect candidates nationwide.

Therefore, the male teacher suggested that the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training assess the specific impact after the exam error incident and have detailed statistics on the candidates' wishes. In case students want to use the high school graduation exam results for university or college admission, the province can re-organize the exam for them. "In case the number of candidates in this category is too small, only a few students, the Department can also consider giving points or have a more reasonable plan," said Master Cong.

"In addition, relevant agencies also need to review the preparation of exam questions and have a plan to quickly handle similar situations in the future, thereby best ensuring the rights of candidates because they are not at fault," Master Cong emphasized.
