On November 29, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to review one year of implementing the happy school model. The city currently has 2,362 schools, including 1,275 kindergartens, 520 primary schools, 295 secondary schools, 205 high schools, 31 continuing education facilities and 36 specialized education facilities.
A year ago, in the 2023-2024 school year, the Department of Education and Training held a conference to deploy the happy school criteria set. The criteria set with 18 criteria is divided into 3 groups of standards on people, on teaching and educational activities, and on the educational environment. 100% of educational institutions have deployed the construction of happy schools to improve the quality of teaching and education of educational institutions, and improve students' learning outcomes.

Mr. Duong Tri Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that after 1 year of implementation, the department needs to conduct more research, refer to and learn from models of building happy schools and advanced schools at home and abroad to have a basis to advise the City People's Committee in implementing the plan to all educational institutions in the area. On the other hand, in the coming time, the set of criteria for building happy schools also needs to continue to have research and practical assessments to adjust to suit the new requirements of education and training work with the practical needs of society...
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality in the country to systematically implement the construction of happy schools. Last year, Ho Chi Minh City affirmed its pioneering and creative role in implementing this model. Schools in the city are not only places to impart knowledge and skills but have gradually become truly happy second homes. There, each student is respected for their differences, and feels the love and sharing from friends and teachers.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc said that Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality in the country to systematically implement the construction of happy schools.
"Happy school is a very special and interesting concept, but it is also very difficult to implement. The criteria must be implemented systematically, avoiding formality or administrative evaluation. I suggest that the city continue to promote that spirit, maintain and expand core values, ensuring that happy schools do not just stop at slogans but go into depth and bring practical results," Mr. Phuc emphasized.
According to Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu, Ho Chi Minh City has nearly 2,400 schools. After 1 year of implementation, only more than 1,500 schools have been evaluated according to the happy school criteria set by the Department of Education and Training.
"I suggest that heads of units proactively evaluate whether their schools have met any criteria of a happy school. The Department will not inspect the implementation of the model, but I hope that building a happy school will become the awareness of schools and teachers," Mr. Hieu requested.
The leaders of the city's education and training sector also emphasized: Happy schools are the cells of a happy society. In which, the principal plays an important role. Change for a happy school begins with the change of the principal.
