Railway Corporation presents its views on the plan to relocate Da Nang railway station

The project to relocate Da Nang railway station out of the center is divided into 2 phases, in which phase 1 until 2030 will relocate the passenger station to a new location about 4.2 km from the current station towards Hanoi.

Vietnam Railway Corporation has just sent a document to the Ministry of Transport to give opinions on the investment plan for the Da Nang Railway Station Relocation Project of the Da Nang City People's Committee.

Accordingly, Vietnam Railway Corporation agrees with the proposal of Da Nang City People's Committee on the scale of investment in the project in 2 phases.

Specifically, in the first phase, we will invest in building a new passenger station next to Trung Nghia Lake to serve passenger pick-up and drop-off instead of the current Da Nang station, and relocate the current freight station to Kim Lien station; in the next phase, we propose to consider exploiting the invested railway infrastructure to serve the needs of railway passenger transport and promote investment efficiency.

The only unit currently operating the North-South railway line suggests that when upgrading Kim Lien freight station in combination with building a railway connecting to Lien Chieu port, it should pay attention to building a railway line approaching the port edge as the plan mentioned in the Project's Pre-Feasibility Study Report to ensure convenient and effective exploitation, loading and unloading, and transporting goods by rail and sea.

Regarding the design plan of Kim Lien freight station, Vietnam Railways Corporation proposed that the competent authority review to ensure consistency with the planning content of Kim Lien station (belonging to the Planning of a number of national railway stations in urban areas, hub stations, and international transit stations that the Ministry of Transport is assigning the Vietnam Railway Administration to organize and develop).

In addition, the People's Committee of Da Nang City also needs to review the scale and scope of the evacuation route to ensure safety at the station as well as review the construction area of the facility for preparing and repairing locomotives and carriages to meet the development needs of railway transport in the future.

Regarding the new passenger station project at the location next to Trung Nghia Lake, Vietnam Railways Corporation proposed that the People's Committee of Da Nang City consider arranging a station to prepare locomotives and passenger train cars to serve technical operations.

In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to the content of the station's design capacity audit because currently, when the number of passenger trains increases, there is a phenomenon of exceeding the capacity of Da Nang station's vehicles and having to park passenger trains at neighboring stations.

Previously, in early August 2024, the People's Committee of Da Nang City sent a document requesting the Ministry of Transport to comment on the content of the Pre-Feasibility Study Report of the Da Nang Station Relocation Project as a basis for completion and reporting to the competent authority in the next step.

In the Pre-Feasibility Study Report, the People's Committee of Da Nang City plans to divide the Da Nang Station Relocation Project into 2 phases.

In phase 1, the project will maintain the current railway route in Da Nang City. The dead-end railway branch from Thanh Khe roundabout through Thanh Khe station to Da Nang station will be converted into an urban railway.

The project will invest in building a new passenger terminal about 4.2 km from the existing Da Nang station towards Hanoi - located on the existing railway in the Trung Nghia Lake area (in front of Thanh Khe roundabout) in Hoa Minh ward, Lien Chieu district.

The passenger terminal has an area of about 3,000 m2, 10 floors high to serve the reception of train passengers.

In addition, the project will build a station square combined with the city's West Lake park to connect traffic with the streets near the station. The park area combined with the station square is about 14,000 m2.

Also in phase 1, the Project will upgrade and renovate the existing Kim Lien station in Hiep Hoa Bac ward, Lien Chieu district into a regional station with freight operations to serve the transportation of goods to Da Nang city with a loading and unloading capacity of about 500,000 tons/year.

The total investment for the Da Nang Station Relocation Project Phase 1 is expected to be 2,293 billion VND, of which site clearance costs are 781 billion VND; construction and equipment costs are about 1,190 billion VND...

The People's Committee of Da Nang City proposed to implement the Da Nang Station Relocation Project, Phase 1, from 2024 to 2030, with the construction phase from the third quarter of 2026 to 2030. The new passenger railway station will operate until 2050.

In phase 2, the project will relocate the station and railway lines in Da Nang City according to the plan, in which the highlight is the construction of a new passenger station in Hoa Son commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang City, including a national railway station and a high-speed railway station on the North-South axis.

The estimated cost of Phase 2 of the Project is 3,812 billion VND. The total cost of the entire Project is 9,045 billion VND, invested from the State budget.
