The works not only have content value but also have archival value over time.
According to Mr. Tran Trong Dung, in the first year of organization, the Organizing Committee expects to create practical activities to promote the emulation movement to build a cultural environment in press agencies; encourage the reading movement among journalists; encourage journalists to participate in writing books, conveying to readers pages of books filled with the breath of life, closely linked to the flow of social news. With the strength of writing during their time working at press agencies, journalists will create works that are full of the spirit of the times.
At the ceremony, Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee shared that each field has its own characteristics and for journalists, there is also a new perspective and aspect when creating books for readers. Through the books of journalists, readers will find many values, helping them gain good knowledge and ideas.
The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that the Journalists' Book Week will continue to be maintained annually to introduce more valuable works to readers.
In order to encourage the creative activities of journalists, the Organizing Committee awarded commemorative medals to journalists whose books won high awards from Ho Chi Minh City and the Central Government.
In addition, the Book Week also held many events to introduce books by journalists who have worked and are working at newspapers such as Ho Chi Minh City Police Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Women, Laborers, Youth, Youth, Saigon Giai Phong...
This is also an opportunity for journalists to meet, connect, share about work, life and experiences when writing books.
Talking about the writing process, journalist Lai Van Long, the author who just confirmed the record with the longest crime novel in Vietnam "Fire File", said that working at the Ho Chi Minh City Police newspaper since 1992 gave him the opportunity to access many documents and criminal cases to create vivid and realistic writings.
Mr. Long wrote "Fire Files" in 6 years, but it took him more than 20 years to research and prepare.
Journalist Bui Phan Thao (author of "Ngôn hưu hồi trời" which won the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association Award 2022) shared: "The writing profession and journalism profession are different but also support each other a lot. Journalism gives me sharp, sensitive thinking, respect for truth and evidence; while writing brings kindness and humanity. However, whether writing or journalism, in my opinion, each journalist must have a split personality, but also an immersion; must forget himself, must be immersed in his works to become professional journalists, successful writers."
Taking place from June 17-22 at Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, Journalists' Book Week displays and introduces 291 books by press agencies and journalists to a wide range of readers.
These are pages written with the breath of current events, closely linked to the flow of current events from the living material of journalists themselves, contributing to diversifying the Vietnamese book market.
After the end of this week, the Organizing Committee will donate the displayed books to the Vietnam Press Museum (Hanoi) and the Faculty of Journalism, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City to serve the reading and research needs of readers, lecturers and students.
