Tam Diep - Historical defense line and tourism development potential

NDO - Located on the north-south arterial road, Tam Diep has long been considered an important strategic location. This place is not only a solid shield in the resistance wars to protect the country, but also possesses many majestic natural landscapes, rich in tourism potential.

One late spring morning, drizzle obscured the limestone mountains. I had the opportunity to join Mr. Tong Duc Thuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Diep City (Ninh Binh), following the traces of the ancient Thien Ly Road, up to Ba Doi Pass - a place that has witnessed countless footprints of troops marching through this land.

Land of historic lines

Since ancient times, the Thien Ly Road running along the Tam Diep land has not only been a vital trade route connecting the north and the central regions, but also an important military route. Ancient armies have marched through here, and then left their mark in history.

Standing on the top of Ba Doi Pass, amidst the mist, I looked around. The lush green valleys at the foot of the pass, surrounded by towering limestone mountains, created a majestic picture of nature. The cold wind blew through, carrying the breath of the earth and sky, of ancient history.

Mr. Tong Duc Thuan quietly pointed into the distance: "This is where, more than 230 years ago, the Tay Son army stopped. It was also from here that they marched to Thang Long in a lightning-fast march, creating the resounding victory of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da."

The stories he told me helped me visualize that historic moment more clearly. The footprints of the Tay Son army, the footsteps of the Ho Dynasty soldiers, the Trinh and Nguyen Dynasty soldiers... all seemed to still echo on every inch of land here.

Not only a stop on the Great Road, Tam Diep is also considered a steel shield in many wars. From the time Ho Quy Ly built a defense line against the Ming army, to the battles between Le-Trinh and Tay Son, this land has witnessed many conflicts.

But perhaps the most prominent was the lightning-fast march of Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue in 1789. At Tam Diep, the Tay Son army organized its forces, divided into many attack directions, attacked the Qing army directly, won a resounding victory, liberated Thang Long right on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

Preserve and develop tourism associated with history

Looking down at the valley below Ba Doi Pass, Mr. Thuan mused: "We want to preserve these historical values and turn Tam Diep into a destination not only for tourists to visit, but also for them to feel the breath of history."

Some valleys have developed tourism such as Quen Tho, an attractive eco-tourism destination where visitors can explore majestic limestone mountains and immerse themselves in the peaceful space of nature. Meanwhile, Kem Do offers a wild experience with stone roots, reed banks, lush green forests and fresh air, suitable for outdoor activities and trekking.

In addition, the ancient Thien Ly road - the ancient north-south arterial road, passing through Tam Diep, reminds us of the Tay Son army's rapid march to Thang Long in history. This is an ideal place to learn about culture and history, combined with experiences of exploring the typical landscape of this land.

With the combination of wild nature, heroic history and potential for eco-tourism development, Tam Diep is gradually becoming an attractive destination for tourists who love to explore and experience.

To promote the value of this land, there needs to be synchronous solutions: Preserving and restoring historical relics, such as ancient military defense lines, traces of battles; developing experiential tours, where visitors can travel along the Thien Ly Road, climb Ba Doi Pass and immerse themselves in the historical space; building tourism infrastructure, connecting Tam Diep with famous tourist destinations of Ninh Binh such as Trang An, Bai Dinh, creating an attractive cultural-historical tourism route.

Tam Diep is not only a land bearing the mark of the past, but also a land full of potential for the future. Standing on Ba Doi Pass in the cold of an early spring morning, I feel more clearly than ever the sacredness of history. If properly invested, Tam Diep will certainly become an unmissable destination on the Vietnam tourism map.
