End 2024 successfully
Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, General Director of TKV, said that 2024 is a year of special significance, marking the 30-year historical milestone of establishment and development from Vietnam National Coal Corporation. The Group continues to receive attention and direction to resolve difficulties and problems from the Government, ministries, branches and the consensus, support and sharing of local authorities at all levels, especially Quang Ninh province.
However, 2024 will also face many difficulties. Providing enough coal for the power plants of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is a challenge, creating great pressure for TKV in the context of domestic coal production decreasing compared to recent years; thermal power plants receiving unstable coal; many unfavorable geological conditions for mining reduce coal production compared to projects and plans; obstacles in licensing exploration and mining; and difficulties in recruiting miners.
Along with the unusual weather changes, especially storm No. 3 (storm Yagi) caused many difficulties for production, causing heavy damage to TKV's coal production units.
However, with the spirit of “Discipline and unity”, the Board of Directors and employees of the Group have made great efforts to overcome difficulties, quickly overcome the consequences of storm Yagi, soon stabilize production and business; join hands with localities to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, especially in Quang Ninh province, and at the same time resolutely implement operational solutions.
Thanks to this effort, TKV has basically completed the main targets of the 2024 production and business plan. Specifically, coal production reached about 36.7 million tons; coal consumption reached about 46.73 million tons, equal to 93.5% of the annual plan. Of this, coal for electricity production was 39.46 million tons, equal to 94.9% of the annual plan.
Along with a series of business activities in the fields of minerals, electricity production, etc., TKV achieved a total revenue of 167,250 billion VND. Although this revenue is only about 95.5% of the yearly plan, profit increased sharply with about 6,300 billion VND, equal to 142% of the yearly plan.
TKV has ensured jobs and stable income for workers and paid the state budget according to the set plan, fulfilling its political task of ensuring sufficient coal supply for electricity production.
In 2025, TKV plans to consume 50 million tons of coal, of which 42 million tons will be used for electricity production, 36.852 million tons of clean coal produced domestically, with revenue of VND 172,800 billion and profit of VND 3,400 billion.
Firm pillar of energy security
Today, TKV has become a strong state economic group, one of the three pillars ensuring national energy security, playing an important role in the country's development.
By the end of 2023, TKV's total assets had increased more than 97 times compared to when it was first established, preserving and developing state capital; revenue grew remarkably, with an average growth rate of 18%/year (in 1995, revenue was 2,500 billion VND, by 2023, revenue reached 170,000 billion VND); pre-tax profit from 40 billion VND (in 1995), by 2023 reached 6,000 billion VND; state budget contribution in 1995 reached 120 billion VND, by 2023 reached 29,000 billion VND; average salary of workers reached over 17 million VND/month, of which miners reached over 21 million VND/month.
Thanks to effective production and business, TKV contributes significantly to the state budget, especially in Quang Ninh province - TKV's strategic production area. For example, in 2024, TKV's state budget contribution in Quang Ninh reached VND 17,650 billion, equal to 110.3% of the annual plan. In 2025, the expected local budget contribution is over VND 17,000 billion.
In production and business, TKV accelerates the development of the coal industry, meeting the demand for coal for the economy; effectively applies mechanization - automation - computerization in management, operation and production and business; the mineral sector is developed in the direction of increasing deep processing, notably the successful implementation of two pilot projects for bauxite mining in the Central Highlands; successfully develops the fields of electricity, industrial explosives, mechanics, and construction materials based on the coal industry.
