Da Nang celebrates 90 years of militia tradition

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification; the 135th birthday of the great President Ho Chi Minh, the 95th anniversary of the founding of the City Party Committee and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang City, on the morning of March 21, the City Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee of Da Nang City solemnly held the 90th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnam Militia and Self-Defense Force (March 28, 1935 - March 28, 2025) to express gratitude and review the glorious tradition of the heroic Vietnam Militia and Self-Defense Force. Attending the ceremony were Major General Nguyen Quoc Huong, Deputy Commander of Military Region 5, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the City People's Council Ngo Xuan Thang, leaders of units under Military Region 5, the City Military Command, city departments and branches, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and about 600 militia delegates, representing the militia and self-defense forces of the whole city.

After 90 years of building, fighting and growing up under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Militia and Self-Defense Force is a mass armed force born and raised in the revolutionary struggle movement of the People, closely attached to the homeland, living and fighting in the hearts of the People and being loved and protected by the People. During 9 decades of overcoming many difficulties, challenges and sacrifices, generations of cadres and soldiers of the Militia and Self-Defense Force have been loyal to the Fatherland, the People, and the revolutionary cause of the Party, fighting steadfastly, intelligently, and courageously; working, studying, and working effectively and creatively, and achieving many great feats. Through the revolutionary periods , over 370 collectives and 284 individuals have been awarded the title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" by the Party and the State.

Emphasizing in his commemorative speech at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh affirmed: Thoroughly grasping and implementing the documents of the Party, State, and Army on building the Militia and Self-Defense Forces, in recent years, the city's Militia and Self-Defense Forces have been built according to the motto "Strong, widespread" with reasonable numbers and increasingly improved quality, always being improved in terms of organization and staffing, linking the building of the Militia and Self-Defense Forces with the building of a comprehensively strong base. Up to now, the whole city has 196 militia and self-defense bases, with a force of over 13,000 (reaching a rate of 1.15% of the population). Of which, the militia in wards and communes has over 9,300 comrades, the Self-Defense Forces has over 4,200 comrades. Political quality has been increasingly improved with the rate of party members reaching 25.58%.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee requested the Militia and Self-Defense Force of Da Nang City to continue to promote the glorious tradition of the past 90 years; to grow increasingly mature and strong in all aspects, to excellently complete all assigned tasks; to always be worthy of the trust and attention of the Party Committee, the government and the people of the city. Together with the whole country, the Military Region and the City successfully implemented the theme of 2025 "Discipline and responsibility; proactive and timely; streamlined and effective; accelerating breakthroughs".
