On the morning of February 20, in Hanoi, the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists Association, and Nhan Dan Newspaper coordinated to organize the Spring Press Conference of Giap Thin 2024 - a traditional New Year activity of journalists nationwide.

Attending and chairing the Conference were comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Party Central Committee members: Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Prime Minister; Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Lai Xuan Mon, Permanent Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Minister of Information and Communications; Tran Thanh Lam, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department.
Also attending were representatives of leaders of central and Hanoi press agencies, ministries, departments, unions, press management agencies, and many veteran journalists.
Comrade Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association delivered a welcome speech at the Conference.
Speaking at the conference, comrade Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said that in about 3 weeks, the National Press Conference and the National Press Forum will take place in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of about 1,000 delegates who are leaders of press agencies.
Along with that, the emulation movement was launched, towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day; the inauguration of Huynh Thuc Khang School - the first journalism school in Thai Nguyen.
He also said that press agencies need to continue to work together to protect copyright; unite, promote mainstream information; and tighten journalistic ethics during sensitive times.
Promoting the ability of each journalist and each press agency

At the conference, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, stated that journalists need to strengthen solidarity and determination, join hands to promote the spirit of patriotism, Vietnamese bravery and intelligence, and continue to build a professional, humane, and modern press in the new situation. We must be proactive, not passive.
It takes more than courage for every press agency to become a decent press agency, for every journalist to be a decent journalist. To gain the admiration of the Party, the people, and international friends, to gain the respect of the whole society, to create value, to affirm a competitive brand in the face of increasingly diverse media platforms. To guide people back to the values of truth, goodness, and beauty of mainstream journalism, so that people can receive these core values again.
From now until the 14th National Party Congress and other milestones of the nation, journalists still have a lot of work to do. The tasks for journalism are very heavy, requiring high quality and efficiency in both leadership, direction and implementation of information and propaganda. However, in the face of challenges, we must rise up and create opportunities for journalists to fulfill their roles, political responsibilities and creativity to produce quality and effective journalism.
To do their job well, journalists need to have a deeper understanding of the role, position, function, and tasks of revolutionary journalism, and constantly improve their political qualities, professional ethics, and expertise.
I always believe that with our glorious tradition, efforts and determination with the desire for innovation, we will do well in our role and mission of propaganda to the people and the state.

Comrade Tran Luu Quang, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister spoke at the conference.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang expressed his warm and enthusiastic feelings when attending the meeting of the country's press agencies. Especially in the context of the coordination work of many fields, not just the press, there are still many things that need to be overcome.
From there, the Deputy Prime Minister hopes to maintain a strong bond between press agencies, build a more friendly and supportive relationship..., both synthesizing everyone's strength and creating more harmony in the binding relationship for socio-economic development.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that 2024 will still be full of difficulties. As the world situation is unpredictable with wars and conflicts, changes in the positions of world leaders, the world economy in general is also declining. Vietnamese enterprises are also facing difficulties and need institutions to help them overcome difficulties. The state budget is still limited and the mobilization of internal resources from the people has not been effective.
Difficulties create instability. Journalists have the responsibility to support businesses to overcome difficulties, soothe the pain and guide the spread of good things. However, the press still needs to deter bad behavior caused by difficulties. State budget funding for the press has never been enough, advertising has decreased unprecedentedly, and the demand for information is increasing as Vietnam's position increases, while having to compete fiercely with social media platforms and follow trends.
Therefore, with difficult tasks, it is necessary to change the way of thinking and approaching, to face difficulties directly, and not to avoid them. Press agencies need new ways of doing things and thinking to have more attractive and competitive products. For example, in 2023, Vinh Long Television had a revenue from Youtube of more than 4 million USD when it effectively appealed to viewers' tastes.
Along with that, press agencies need to manage products and personnel better. There are still mistakes even in the Spring newspapers. For official representative information agencies, the standard for comparison, mistakes are unacceptable.
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized financial mechanisms to help resolve difficulties for press agencies.
Press work achieved many positive results.

Presenting comments on the 2024 Lunar New Year press, Comrade Tong Van Thanh, Director of the Press and Publishing Department (Central Propaganda Department) said that the prominent themes in the Tet newspaper, Spring newspaper, and Tet program are: Celebrating the Party, celebrating spring, celebrating the country's steadfast overcoming of challenges, remembering the great President Ho Chi Minh, and the country's belief and aspirations.
Covering the Tet publications are aspirations, beliefs, and pride in the will and character of the nation, and the determination to build Vietnam on par with the world powers as wished by the great President Ho Chi Minh.
Many programs and publications highlight President Ho Chi Minh and stories about him continue to be a major topic exploited by many press agencies; many touching articles about him - an exemplary moral example, a close and intimate relationship with the people; Stories associated with Uncle Ho and Spring.
Articles on achievements at all levels and sectors, and important results in the first half of the Party's 13th term. Many articles propose practical solutions in the spirit of unity, consensus, solidarity, and responsibility to successfully carry out the tasks of 2024 and the entire 13th term. Newspapers also highlight the foreign affairs work of our Party and State, especially the "bamboo diplomacy" school of Vietnam.
Keywords such as “transforming into a dragon”, “opportunity”, “crossing the dragon gate”, “flying dragon”… are keywords used by many press agencies. The main topic group is about culture, the national Tet flavor, Tet with the Vietnamese community abroad. Many programs reenacting the old Tet vividly show the Tet flavor.

The press agencies clearly reflected the information that the Party, the State, and all levels and sectors take care of the people during Tet, are determined to firmly protect the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland, and the atmosphere of labor and production right from the first days of the month and the first days of the year.
Another major topic group is the art pages and spring radio and television programs. Particularly emphasizing the close association of artists with the people, in the process of reviving and developing the country's culture.
Comrade Tong Van Thanh also said that on the occasion of the 2024 Lunar New Year, 224 press agencies will issue special issues, 130 newspapers and 94 magazines. The press agencies strictly comply with the law on increasing pages, changing sizes, and combining issues. The quality of the Tet publications is quite good.
Regarding foreign affairs information, Comrade Pham Thu Hang, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on foreign press opinion in 2023. This showed optimism about economic prospects and highly appreciated Vietnam's dynamism. Foreign press also paid attention to the fight against corruption and citizen protection. Thereby, it was assessed that Vietnam has been proactive in foreign relations, focusing on diplomatic strategy.
