At the press conference this afternoon (December 12), a representative of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City said that the unit had a working session with the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden. Thereby, the Department acknowledged and agreed on many contents.

Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden is responsible for contacting the unit with the function of measuring and drawing to create a map of the current status of the detailed location, boundary and area as a basis for consideration and determination.

After completing all the above steps, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden will contact the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to submit the application and request consideration and submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to decide on the form of land use.

According to a report from Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, most of the land area allocated is for non-business purposes.

The unit's only business activities are selling entrance tickets and services (children's games, souvenir stalls, coffee... However, with this source of revenue, the unit spends about 95% on costs of animal care, feeding, maintenance, conservation and development of trees...

Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden affirms that its activities are not for profit. Therefore, renting land and paying land rent for the entire area of the campus is beyond its capacity. Therefore, the unit recommends that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and relevant departments and branches consider and adjust.

As reported by VietNamNet , with an annual land rent of over 163 billion VND, the management unit of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden currently owes over 800 billion VND. Faced with tax enforcement, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden is at risk of ceasing operations.

However, speaking to the press, Ho Chi Minh City Chairman Phan Van Mai said that all problems have solutions. The city has assigned departments and branches to review and reconsider the tax debt of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden. Mr. Mai also affirmed that "closing the Zoo and Botanical Garden" will definitely not happen.
