According to Box Office Vietnam's statistics, after more than 10 days of showing, Kaleidoscope: Catching the Ghost only earned more than 5 billion VND. This is considered a very "modest" number for a movie that was previously promoted quite loudly.
Kaleidoscope Movie Scene: Get the Ghost Back
Many opinions say that with Kaleidoscope: Catching the Ghost , the audience did not find sympathy with the story. Although it was promoted as a modern film with many new features, the content of the film was quite disjointed and lacked the necessary depth. Moreover, the dialogue was considered awkward, not suitable for the context, making the audience feel strange instead of close. To be fair, it can be seen that Vo Thanh Hoa added and edited to create a new feature for a healing story about the meaning of friendship and humanity, but this effort was not enough.
Kaleidoscope is a "brand" that has existed for more than 20 years and is deeply attached to the generation of viewers in the TV version. And perhaps the success of the old brand has become a great pressure and a difficult shadow to overcome for the film version. The loyal audience of the old version, who have "framed" the image of the three main characters, will find it difficult to accept the new version with a cast that is considered unsuitable in both appearance and acting style.
Director Vo Thanh Hoa has been successful with a series of hundred billion projects such as Super cheat meets super mud, Quy Cau and Linh Mieu , making his name a brand that guarantees revenue. However, through Kinh Kaleidoscope: Catching the ghost shows that no matter how famous the director or producer is, if the quality of the film is not guaranteed, does not meet the taste of the audience, it is very easy to lose.
Vietnamese audiences today are no longer attracted by grand media campaigns or famous names. They have gone through a period of development in their approach and evaluation of films, thanks to greater exposure to high-quality international cinema, with films from Hollywood, Korea or even Southeast Asian cinema such as Thailand, so the standards for domestic films have also become more stringent. Looking more broadly, it can be seen that the younger generation of audiences not only watch films for entertainment but also want to find meaningful values and messages.
When a film fails to achieve this, negative word-of-mouth becomes a "tsunami" that drowns out all promotional efforts.
From the failure of Kaleidoscope: Catch the Ghost , Vietnamese filmmakers need to focus on film quality, because this is the only factor that can guarantee success at the box office.
