Applying cinematic techniques to music videos is a popular trend nowadays.
The MV (music video) "Phoenix Wings" by singer Tung Duong is a product that attracts attention because of its perfection in music quality, ideas, messages, especially the beautiful special effects like a movie.
The audience could not take their eyes off
The MV "Phoenix Wings" tells the legendary story of Vietnam with Mother Au Co, then through many historical ups and downs with the examples of female generals, heroic Vietnamese Mothers "for the Fatherland they also bear all the pain... Vietnamese women are the land, the water, the immense field of motherly love" until women in today's modern society "make themselves beautiful and make life beautiful".

To create a highlight for the MV "Canh chim phoenix", directors Nguyen Truong Kien (Zodiac II) and Nguyen Huu Hoang filmed 114 shots with 8 scenes. All shots were performed with advanced special effects. "Canh chim phoenix" is the MV with the largest amount of VFX (Visual Effect - visual effects) in Vietnam to date. The most important and impressive image is probably the phoenix, created by Duy Nguyen - Art Director of Riot Games Company (famous for the games League of Legends, Valorant...), currently working in Singapore. This MV took 5 months to complete the post-production with many special features appearing for the first time in a music MV in Vietnam.
Previously, most audiences liked the MV "Hoa ca" - the theme song of the program "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" 2024 and the MV "The stars" of "Anh trai say hi" 2024. Both MVs were carefully invested in the background, the filming sets were meticulously shot in terms of graphics and effects. The close-up frames depicting the appearance and extremely cool steps of the "brothers" made the audience unable to take their eyes off. The special effects of both MVs were rated as comparable to the series of K-pop MVs that are causing a fever such as "Supernova" and "Armageddon".
The recent comeback of singer Ngoc Khue with the album "Strolling" surprised the audience. That feeling came not only because of the comeback after 16 years of silence but also because of the interesting comeback mindset of the singer "Chuon chuon uchi". Still the songs associated with the name Ngoc Khue such as "Chuon chuon uchi", "Ben bo ao nha minh", "Giot suong bay len", "Ba toi", "Co la", "Beo dat may troi", "Xe chi thong kim", "Qua cau gio bay"... but the songs are more interesting when dressed in a new look with the electronic colors of ambient, deep house, word music, trap, hip hop...
Not only that, Ngoc Khue also writes rap lyrics in Quan Ho folk songs, bringing youthfulness and new vitality to songs that are too familiar. Ngoc Khue has also incorporated high technology into the product. "Strolling" is the first folk music album to combine Dolby Atmos technology, a multi-dimensional, vivid 3D sound space. The female singer said that instead of focusing on making MVs, she chose to invest in technology so that the audience can experience music in the most exciting and enjoyable way. Currently, online music listening platforms such as Apple Music, Tidal... also support this technology, so the audience can conveniently listen in digital music format.
Interesting direction
In fact, the application of cinematographic techniques in MVs was chosen by singers a few years ago. Singer Young Uno once made a strong impression with the MV "Hanoi Chill" when the MV was created entirely with 3D technology and cinematographic techniques. In "The Last Ray of Light", a collaboration between People's Artist Bach Tuyet and rapper Wowy, audiences were impressed when this product used AI (artificial intelligence) visual art and 3D projector mapping technology to create a half-virtual, half-real universe, containing the message of reincarnation. Director La Zung said this is one of the first MVs in Vietnam to use this advanced technology.
As audience tastes are increasingly improving, investing in visual effects in modern advertising products is always focused on bringing the most positive feedback and interaction to brands. Since then, VFX has become a useful method, bringing attractive and engaging frames to viewers that have gone beyond the scope of cinema. To attract audiences, singers' music products are also not out of this upgrade game such as: MV "See Tinh" (Hoang Thuy Linh), MV "Troi hi troi mang di" (Amee x ViruSs) ...
VFX companies in Vietnam are now equipped with software such as Houdini, Unreal Engine, Maya, Nuke, ZBrush, Blender - powerful and popular tools in the film industry. These software not only help create realistic effects but also optimize the workflow, helping to complete products quickly while still ensuring quality.
Vietnamese VFX companies also apply motion capture technology, which helps record the movements of people or objects in 3D space, thereby creating extremely vivid and realistic characters or effects. This technology is often used in film projects. And now it is applied by singers for their MV products. Thanks to that, MVs today become more attractive and eye-catching, attracting the attention of viewers.
Experts say that AI's penetration into the field of special effects is growing and the Vietnamese MV market is no exception. AI technology is helping to optimize the special effects production process, reducing time and costs. AI algorithms can assist in creating more realistic effects, especially in areas such as facial animation and motion tracking.
Recently, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2025), director Pham Vinh Khuong released the MV "White Shirt After White Night". This is a work of art honoring the medical profession, and at the same time marking a breakthrough in the application of AI in Vietnamese cinema. Director Pham Vinh Khuong said: "I want this film to not only be a tribute but also help the audience understand more about the hardships of doctors and nurses. AI technology helps to recreate those stories in the most realistic and vivid way".
The special highlight of "White Shirt After White Night" is that the entire production process - from images to music - is done entirely by AI. Visual effects, scene reconstruction, 3D effects and post-production all use AI. The MV "White Shirt After White Night" is considered a stepping stone for the film project of the same name, scheduled to be released on February 27, 2026.
According to experts, VFX application is a necessary factor for a product to easily reach the audience and reach Top Trending. Products with VFX intervention are always highly effective - not only attractive in content, hearing but also visually. Thanks to VFX and the popularity of special effects in MVs, products have reached the audience more deeply, contributing to conveying the message and spirit of the producer to the public more effectively.
