Jonas Andersson (Sweden) is the main driver of the Binh Dinh - Vietnam F1H2O Powerboat Racing Team (referred to as Binh Dinh - Vietnam Team), currently the reigning Formula 1 Powerboat Racing World Champion (UIM F1H2O World Championship) 2023. In the 2024 season, the 49-year-old driver must compete hard to successfully defend the championship in the Binh Dinh - Vietnam team's jersey. 2 F1H2O stars determined to bring glory to the Binh Dinh - Vietnam team Andersson was born in 1974 in Orebro (Sweden) and grew up with a passion for speed. Before becoming a powerboat athlete, Andersson competed in motocross and off-road motorcycle racing. In the late 1990s, he started to switch to boat racing. The Swedish driver started his career in 1999 at the age of 25, participating in the Scandinavian F2000 Championship (ranked 8th). Andersson won the F2000 World Championship (2003, 2004), the F2000 Scandinavian Championship (2005), the F2000 President's Cup (2005). After 7 years, he started competing in the Formula 1 Yachting World Championship. Since 2006, he has mainly competed for the Swedish team. In his first season, he entered the top 5. In 14 years, Andersson's best result was 3rd place in the world in 2008. However, in 2 of the last 3 seasons, he won the championship (2021, 2023). In addition to 2 world championships, Andersson also has 1 Teams' Championship, 1 Pole Position Trophy and 14 Grand Prix. With 114 starts at the F1H2O Grand Prix, Andersson has 31 podiums and 11 pole positions. Andersson's teammate in the Binh Dinh - Vietnam team is Stefan Arand, a 20-year-old racer from Estonia. Stefan has won 7 world titles and 9 European championships at the youth level and was awarded "Racer of the Year 2023" at the Estonian Powerboat Federation's awards ceremony.

In his first participation in the F1H2O event (the world's largest powerboat racing championship), Arand performed very well when he continuously finished in 4th place in the Grand Prix of Indonesia. Arand's achievements combined with Andersson's have helped Binh Dinh - Vietnam temporarily lead the UIM F1H2O World Championship 2024 team rankings. With what they have shown, Vietnamese fans expect the two racers to do better in the upcoming race in Vietnam. On the day they joined the Binh Dinh - Vietnam team in January 2024, both drivers showed their determination to compete and bring glory to the racing team they joined. The two drivers mentioned above are aiming to help Binh Dinh - Vietnam continue to lead the rankings, individually they rose to the leading position of the racers in the Thi Nai Bay, Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh stage from March 29 - 31. “We had some challenges with the new boat, which is quite normal when getting used to new equipment,” Jonas said of the engine failure at the first leg of the 2024 season in Lake Toba, Indonesia. “However, we quickly resolved these issues, ensuring that the boat was tuned and ready to compete.” With the Grand Prix of Binh Dinh in Vietnam ahead of the race, Jonas and Stefan have been training hard to fine-tune their boat and their racing strategy. “We are focused on resolving any remaining issues with the new boat, ensuring that it will perform well on race day. As for strategy, we are still analysing the course, studying our opponents and adjusting our tactics to maximise our chances of winning the race,” he said. Both drivers set a high goal of touching the flag at the end of the race and trying to maintain the top position in the UIM F1H2O World Championship rankings for the whole team. Formidable opponents at the UIM F1H2O World Championship Grand Prix of Binh Dinh Speaking of the most special name, Marit Stromoy deserves to be honored as the brave woman who "tamed" the 18 billion VND F1H2O machine. The athlete born in 1976 is the only female athlete talented enough to compete with her male colleagues at the F1H2O event. At the race that took place in Indonesia in early March, the Norwegian woman finished in 7th place, she ended the race with a total of 11 points, ranking 6th in the rankings of the racers.

The “Iron Lady” entered the F1H2O world championship in 2007 and has competed in 103 Grand Prix, having the best season of her career in 2019, finishing 3rd overall. Rusty Wyatt, a driver born in 1994 from Canada, is of course a special opponent. At the recent Indonesian GP, Wyatt finished first by surpassing Andersson and Erik Stark (Sweden) in the final lap.

Notably, this is the first season the Canadian driver has competed in the UIM F1H2O and he quickly created a surprise when he surpassed the defending champion Andersson to win the first stage of his career. Coming from Innisfil in Ontario, Wyatt previously participated in powerboat races in the US and his best result was only third place. With what he showed in the Indonesian stage, Wyatt is an unpredictable opponent for the F1H2O stars this season. The next formidable opponent is Erik Stark, a 36-year-old driver who is a compatriot of Andersson. This star was the runner-up in the last Indonesian stage, he is also the runner-up in the 2023 season. Stark has participated in F1H2O since 2012, has won 4 stages, finished 2nd 5 times, and finished 3rd 4 times. Before racing in F1H2O, the 36-year-old Swedish driver was a 4-time F2 world champion.

Bartek Marszalek, a 41-year-old Polish driver, is also a worthy opponent. Having started racing F1H2O since 2011, Marszalek has participated in 61 races, including 56 official races, 1 win and 4 podium finishes. Together with female racer Marit Stromoy, he is competing for the Stromoy Racing team (Norway). The person with the same achievements as Andersson is Sami Selio, a Finnish driver who is 1 year younger than the Vietnamese team's athlete but has also won the world championship 2 times. Joining the F1H20 racing village since 1998, Selio won the world championship twice in 2007 and 2010. The Finnish athlete has had 164 starts in 26 years of competition and 13 wins, surpassing the 1000-point mark in 2022. In 2023, the 48-year-old driver only finished the season in 9th place. Objectively, Andersson is the driver with the most achievements and experience compared to all the remaining competitors. The engine failure prevented the 49-year-old driver from winning the race, but the opportunity will come to him right at his home ground in Thi Nai Bay, Quy Nhon from March 29 to 31. It would be great if Andersson won the race, and Binh Dinh - Vietnam continued to lead the rankings after the upcoming race.
