On the morning of August 5, Hue Central Hospital announced that the four patients who had just received organ transplants from Mr. LVH (41 years old, from Tan Ky - Nghe An) who was brain-dead and donated his organs have basically recovered. The health of the 37-year-old man in Hanoi who received a liver transplant from Mr. H. is also showing significant recovery.
Mr. H. works in Binh Phuoc. On July 29, on his way home from work, he unfortunately had a traffic accident and was taken to Cho Ray Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the doctors' efforts to save him, Mr. H.'s health condition worsened and he gradually fell into a deep coma.
The family asked to take Mr. H. back to his hometown so that his relatives could see him one last time. However, on the ambulance taking Mr. H. from Ho Chi Minh City to Nghe An, Ms. LTN (Mr. H.'s sister) discussed and persuaded the family to fulfill her brother's wish to donate his tissues and organs to save the lives of others, so that a part of her brother's body could live forever in this world.
Doctors bowed their heads in farewell and gratitude before performing surgery to remove organs from Mr. H. to save 5 patients in Hue and Hanoi. |
Upon receiving the information, the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center contacted Hue Central Hospital to coordinate the transplant according to the provisions of law.
“Initially, the family wanted to take Mr. H. straight to Nghe An so that before his heart stopped beating, his relatives would still have a chance to see him one last time. However, the journey of more than 1,000km by car could not ensure the health of his tissues and organs, so the family and the medical team on the bus decided to take Mr. H. to Quy Nhon Hospital for additional supportive medication. After that, the family took Mr. H. to Hue Central Hospital to perform the organ retrieval to save lives,” information from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center said.
At Hue Central Hospital, the two kidneys donated by Mr. H. were immediately transplanted by doctors into two patients with severe kidney failure; his two corneas were also transplanted and brought light to a patient with an eye disease shortly after.
Mr. H's liver was transplanted to a patient on the list of patients waiting for a liver transplant according to the law, that is patient LHM, born in 1986, with an indication for an emergency liver transplant on the list of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
