In the report, the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that it has implemented many plans to develop culture, sports and tourism, and coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to promote regional connectivity and attract investment resources. Notably, there are two key projects: the restoration of the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel and the Hien Luong - Ben Hai River Relics, with a total budget of 170 billion VND from the Central Government. However, progress has been slow due to problems with planning, bidding and capital sources.
Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong pledged to accelerate the progress of the projects and proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism support the construction of the National Museum of "Memories of War and Aspiration for Peace" with an investment capital of VND1,000 billion in the period 2026-2030. He also proposed reducing the budget counterpart so that the province can easily implement key cultural programs.
In addition, Quang Tri is preparing a dossier to make the Gio An Ancient Water Exploitation System a UNESCO world cultural heritage, along with projects to preserve national cultural heritage and restore infrastructure at the La Vang Pilgrimage Center.
Concluding the meeting, Minister Nguyen Van Hung acknowledged the province’s efforts in promoting cultural heritage. He suggested that Quang Tri continue to study the special potential of the relics, build a unique cultural brand, and at the same time develop sustainable tourism associated with heritage values.
