9x scientist nominated for "Outstanding Young Vietnamese Face"
On the morning of February 20, the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund announced a list of 19 outstanding nominees for the online voting round of the "Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces" Award 2024.
In the field of scientific research, Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong, born in 1990, currently Deputy Head of the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Phenikaa University (Hanoi) is one of the three candidates receiving the award.

This young doctor has 1 international patent, 39 international articles, 31 ISI Q1 articles. He received an international patent for "Development of Atmospheric Pressure Monolayer Deposition (SALD) Technology". This research of Dr. Huong applies nano thin films in optoelectronic components, gas sensors, solar cells, storage batteries, and protective coatings. In particular, being self-sufficient in developing high-tech equipment systems for nano thin film deposition not only helps save billions of VND compared to importing commercial equipment but also opens up great opportunities for new research directions and training.
Dr. Huong is also one of 10 young faces receiving the Science and Technology Award - Golden Globe in 2024. He is also a Young Vietnamese Scientist honored and sponsored by UNESCO.
Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong is from Can Loc district, Ha Tinh. He passed the entrance exam to the specialized Math class A1 of the Specialized High School, Vinh University, and was the valedictorian (29 points) of the Faculty of Engineering Physics and Nanotechnology, University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. After that, Huong received the scholarship of Project 322 of the State to send students to study abroad with the budget.
Surpassing 81 classmates, he became the valedictorian of the entire course of the Faculty of Materials Science - INSA de Lyon. In 2018, he successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the age of 28 and his thesis received the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award from the French Chemical Society. After 9 years of living, studying and researching in France, Dr. Huong decided to return to Vietnam.
19 nominations for Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces 2024
Journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Director of the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund, shared: "In 2024, the Organizing Committee received 159 nominations from 55 units nationwide, including 3 self-nominated nominations. In terms of structure, there are 114 men, 45 women; Kinh ethnic group: 144, ethnic minorities: 15. Of which, the field of Study has the most nominations (38 nominations); the field of State Administrative Management has the least nominations (1 nomination).
Some fields have many outstanding faces, with outstanding achievements, such as the fields of Study, Scientific Research, Culture and Arts, Sports... In particular, in the field of Study alone, 10 students have won the Second Class Labor Medal, and won Gold Medals in international Olympic competitions; in the field of Scientific Research - Innovation, many young researchers have dozens of scientific articles published in prestigious international scientific journals, own international patents, have made breakthrough announcements in fields such as smart medicine, agricultural technology, environment, sustainable development, won the Golden Globe Award, Khue Van Cac...
