Responding to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, a parent of a student at Trung Vuong High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) said that a student's lunch had black mold in it. The school has taken note of the information and acknowledged the shortcomings, but has not given a reason for why moldy rice was in the student's meal.
Exchanging initial information, Mr. Nguyen Dang Khoa, Principal of Trung Vuong High School (District 1), said that the school organizes lunch for about 1,700 students and uses meals provided by HH Company.
On the afternoon of October 31, Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters directly exchanged information with Ms. Luong Bich Nga, Vice Principal in charge of boarding at Trung Vuong High School. According to Ms. Bich Nga, during the boarding meal on October 19, a 12th grade student discovered that some rice grains on the surface of his meal were moldy with black mold fibers. The teacher in charge of the student's boarding class received the information and made a record of the incident.
In addition to taking care of other meals for students, monitoring and taking care of the health of the above students, the school also requires homeroom teachers and teachers in charge of boarding classes to closely monitor the health of all students after meals.
As a result, after that meal, the health of the student who had moldy rice was completely stable and no other cases of students experiencing the above situation were detected.

What does the school say?
According to Ms. Bich Nga, the school signed a contract with HH Company to provide meals for students and the company set up a kitchen at the school to ensure that students' meals are hot and do not take time to transport. From the menu provided by the kitchen, the school traces the origin of the food to ensure compliance with the requirements and regulations of the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety and Hygiene Department. At the same time, the school checks the hygiene and quantity of food...
Ms. Nga also said that the school kitchen cooks food trays, washes them with high pressure machines, and dries them, and when transporting them, the food trays are covered... and the cause has not been found.
Ms. Nga also said: "When the above situation happened, I texted an apology through the homeroom teacher of the class where the student had moldy rice. The unsafe incident for students that happened at school is first and foremost the responsibility of the school leaders. I do not avoid that. One of the reasons for the cafeteria to cook at school is to ensure the best safety for students. Because cooking at a location other than the school will be more difficult to check."
At that time, although apologizing to the parents, Ms. Nga also recognized that it would be better to meet them in person to listen. Therefore, Ms. Nga said: "After talking with the reporter, I will contact the Parents' Representative Committee of the class and the parents of the students who had moldy rice to discuss and listen to their wishes and suggestions today. From there, the meal provider will also make adjustments, changes, and reviews to avoid similar incidents that affect the health and psychology of the students. I hope that parents can rest assured when sending their children to school."
Through this incident, Ms. Nga said that the school will strengthen the work of checking hygiene and food origin from weekly to every other day. In particular, the cooking unit must review the process from the kitchen to the distribution of food to ensure the health of students.
