Vietnam is known to be one of the fastest growing markets for YouTube, Google's video sharing service. Therefore, Google's consideration of opening a hyperscale data center comes from the large number of domestic and foreign cloud customers in Vietnam as well as the constantly expanding digital economy.
Internal discussions are still ongoing and the center could be ready by 2027, the source said.
Hyperscale data centers are among the largest in the industry, delivering unmatched computing power and massive storage capacity, massive networking infrastructure, and energy consumption equivalent to a large city.
In the far Southeast Asian region, Google has just opened a data center in Singapore, the company has invested a total of 5 billion USD in digital infrastructure here.
In May 2024, according to Japan's Nikkei newspaper, Alibaba is also considering building a data center in Vietnam to meet domestic data storage regulations.
According to leaked information, Google has opened a representative office and is recruiting staff including engineers, marketing experts... A Google spokesperson said this team aims to better serve customers in Vietnam and support the national digital transformation process.
