After Tet holiday, many children do not want to go to school, they wake up and want to eat again, sometimes making their parents have a headache.

For the past three days, the twin boys in grade 4 of Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Huyen (34 years old, Hoang Mai, Hanoi) have been struggling and not wanting to go to school. In order to be in class at 7:30, she has to wake them up at 6:00 to do personal hygiene and have breakfast. However, no matter how much she calls them, they do not wake up, making her angry every morning.

"I yelled until my voice was hoarse, but the children kept their eyes open and refused to wake up, then asked me to let them stay home from school. During Tet, they stayed up late and slept in, so when it was time to go to school, no matter how much I called them in the morning, they just lay there. I kept struggling, so I was late for work and the children were late for school," she said.

The female parent said that during the 9-day Tet holiday, her two children usually slept until 9-10am before waking up. This year, the children did not have to do homework during Tet, so they had more time to play freely. "Adults are still sluggish after Tet, let alone children. Saying goodbye to the wonderful holidays to get back to waking up early, studying and going to class is really difficult," the female parent said in frustration.

In the same situation, since the 6th day of Tet until now, every morning, the family of Mr. Pham Anh Tuan (35 years old, Dong Da, Hanoi) has struggled to take their 5-year-old son to preschool. Despite the child's cries, the couple, one carrying the backpack, the other hugging and comforting, take the child to school and "hand him over" to the teacher.

"During the Tet holidays, my child was pampered by the whole family, eating and sleeping indiscriminately. When my parents reminded me to prepare for school tomorrow, my child immediately reacted, crying and saying he didn't want to go, " said Mr. Tuan. When taking my child to class, the parents realized that many other children were also crying and throwing tantrums, demanding to go home or whining for the teacher to hold them. The atmosphere in the classroom was like a beehive of bees.

From a student’s perspective, Pham Thai Son, an 11th grader in Hanoi, shared that Tet holiday is a precious time that he can take advantage of to sleep in until noon. There were days when Son stayed up until 2am to watch movies, play games and chat with friends without having to think about schoolwork.

"Having to return to the routine of waking up early to go to school and reviewing lessons makes me bored and uninterested. Sitting in class, I often can't concentrate, I just wish it was the 28th of Tet so I could have another day off," Son said.

Ms. Bui Minh Diep, a teacher at Khuong Dinh Kindergarten (Hanoi), said that although schools have returned to teaching and learning, most students are still in the mood for Tet holiday and are not interested.

According to the female teacher, in the first days back to school after the Lunar New Year holiday, it was not difficult to see many students arriving late or even absent. Some students sat in class with red eyes from sleepiness, yawning. Many tried to hold their parents back from entering the classroom, crying loudly.

"Children have a long break and are able to play freely, so they forget their daily routine. At this time, parents and teachers need to be patient and create a positive atmosphere so that children feel excited and quickly get back into the rhythm," said Ms. Diep.

According to MSc. Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, Deputy Director of the Institute of Humanistic Psychology, to revive children's learning spirit, parents and teachers need to have measures appropriate to each age and psychology.

Instead of rushing to urge, parents need to skillfully do activities with their children to revive their enthusiasm such as: gradually adjusting their daily schedule, preparing books and supplies, cleaning up the study corner, talking to their children about interesting things when returning to school such as meeting friends and teachers again... these things will help children balance their emotions and regain their spirit.

At the same time, entering the first days of school after the holiday, teachers should not assign heavy homework or difficult knowledge, making students tired, bored and even more bored, not wanting to study. Instead, teachers should ask students about the holiday, motivate them to study by giving them gifts such as lucky money, books, stories through review questions, and consolidate knowledge.

"Restarting learning in a light and fun way helps children gain confidence, regain interest in learning, want to go to school and cooperate with teachers more. A happy holiday but not forgetting the task of studying is what adults should guide their children. When there is harmonious coordination from parents and teachers, it will help children return to school with a confident, open mindset and catch up well with the learning progress after Tet," Ms. Mai Anh emphasized.
