According to the SCMP newspaper, this is the first time since China severed military ties with the US two years ago.

According to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, in the United States, General Wu Yan'an met with the Commander of the host country's Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral Samuel Paparo, within the framework of the Indo-Pacific Commanders' Defense Conference in Hawaii.

A statement from the Chinese Ministry of National Defense said that during the meeting, "both sides had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on issues of common concern, focusing on implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state."

On the US side, the Indo-Pacific Command said that Admiral Paparo "emphasized the importance of uninterrupted lines of communication between the US military and the People's Liberation Army (PLA) to reduce the risk of misunderstanding or miscalculation".

The visit follows a video call between commanders earlier this month, when the two militaries began cooperating again after communication channels were cut off.
