Pepper prices today, March 12, 2025, in the domestic market continued to decrease in some key localities, trading from 157,000 - 158,500 VND/kg.
Specifically, pepper price today in Gia Lai is at 157,000 VND/kg.
Pepper prices today in the provinces of Dong Nai (157,000 VND/kg); Dak Lak (158,500 VND/kg); Dak Nong (158,500 VND/kg); Ba Ria - Vung Tau (157,000 VND/kg) and Binh Phuoc (157,000 VND/kg).
Thus, pepper prices today continued to decrease slightly in Dak Lak - Dak Nong, a decrease of 500 - 800 VND/kg, while remaining stable in the remaining key growing areas. The highest pepper price was at 158,500 VND/kg. Increased supply from the ongoing harvest pushed the market down.
According to Dong Nai Newspaper, farmers in the province are currently harvesting pepper. Pepper prices this year are higher than in previous years, so gardeners benefit. It is forecasted that the demand for pepper in the world will remain quite high in the coming time, so pepper prices may continue to increase.
In the short term, pepper farmers benefit from increased pepper prices, but overall pepper farming remains unstable. This is because pepper output and acreage have decreased, and the fall in pepper prices in recent years has also caused many worries for growers.
According to a recent report by Nedspice, global pepper production is estimated to continue to decline in 2025. The main reasons are mainly due to reduced cultivation area in Vietnam and adverse weather conditions in India.
Meanwhile, global demand remains strong and significantly higher than supply.
Rising prices typically encourage farmers to ramp up pepper production, slowing the decline in supply. However, competing crops such as durian and coffee are now bringing higher profits to Vietnamese farmers.
Vietnam’s 2024-25 crop is expected to reach 172,000 tonnes, down about 2% year-on-year and down 47% from 322,000 tonnes in 2018-2019. The 2025 harvest is underway, with peaks in March and April.
Commenting on pepper prices, Nedspice said that after a sharp increase at the end of the 2024 harvest season in Vietnam, pepper prices are currently fluctuating within a relatively narrow range. The financial situation of Vietnamese farmers this season is better than last year thanks to high prices, helping to reduce selling pressure.
High profits from coffee and durian in Vietnam also contribute to limiting the expansion of pepper growing areas despite attractive prices.
“China is largely absent in 2024, with exports from Vietnam to China down more than 80%. As inventories in China dwindle, it is unclear when Chinese buyers will return to the market, but if they do buy heavily, prices could continue to rise,” Nedspice said.
At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 7,264 USD/ton, down 0.63%; the price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 6,900 USD/ton; the price of Kuching black pepper (Malaysia) ASTA at 9,800 USD/ton.
Muntok white pepper price is 10,251 USD/ton, down 0.63%; Malaysian ASTA white pepper price is at 12,300 USD/ton.
Vietnam black pepper price is traded at 7,000 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 7,200 USD/ton; white pepper price at 10,000 USD/ton.
The International Pepper Community reported that last week, the market showed mixed reactions when only Vietnamese white pepper prices recorded a decrease.
In the South Asia region, both domestic and export pepper prices in India remained stable, while domestic pepper prices in Sri Lanka continued to increase over the past two weeks.
In Southeast Asia, both domestic and international pepper prices increased last week as few transactions were recorded in the market.
Domestic pepper prices in Malaysia are stable while international pepper prices in the country continue to increase.
Prices of Brazilian, Cambodian black pepper and Chinese white pepper remained stable and unchanged last week.
