On the afternoon of September 29, Mr. Le Quang Thuy, an expert, consultant on astronomy, and model making at the Quy Nhon Science Discovery Center, said that the images that photographers took in Quy Nhon early this morning were indeed comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). Talking to Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of September 29, Mr. Hoang Duc Ngoc (in Quy Nhon City), the person who took the images of comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), said that he is an astronomy enthusiast and really enjoys learning about this field.
"I learned about comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) through astronomy research groups and social networks. To take these photos, early this morning, September 29, I went to Phuong Mai peninsula, Quy Nhon city, and prepared all the cameras and tripods.
At around 4am, I started watching and taking pictures of the comet. By 5am, when the sun appeared, the comet was no longer visible," Ngoc shared.

According to Mr. Ngoc, according to information from astronomers, this comet originates from the Oort cloud in the Solar System. People can see the comet just above the east-southeast horizon in the constellation of the Sextile, about 30-45 minutes before sunrise until October 2.
However, binoculars are needed for easier observation because its apparent magnitude is only about 3.5. Unlike meteors that appear in the blink of an eye, comets move very slowly across the sky so you can watch them at your leisure.
Comet "appears" every 80,000 years
According to earth.com, comet C/2023 A3 has been orbiting the Sun for more than 80,000 years. It was first seen on September 27 and will continue to be observed from now until October 2. It is expected to appear as a fuzzy ball with a tail stretching across the sky.
"C/2023 A3 has an orbital period of about 80,000 years, making it a long-period comet. This means its behavior and shape can be unpredictable, with potential changes in brightness and the growth of its tail as it approaches the Sun," said Minjae Kim, a space expert at the University of Warwick's astronomy department. "If all goes as predicted, we should be able to see it with the naked eye. If not, binoculars or a small telescope may reveal more details about the comet's structure and tail," Kim added. Scientists say that if C/2023 A3 "survives" its trip around the Sun (as comets often break up as they approach the Sun), it may be visible to the naked eye when it is closest to Earth, with the best visibility expected between October 12 and October 20.
